About Colorado Retina Associates
Colorado Retina Associates (CRA) the region's premier vitreoretinal practice, providing advanced medical and surgical care for diseases of the retina and vitreous. With six locations throughout the Denver Metro area, our nationally recognized retina specialists partner closely with thousands of optometrists and ophthalmologists to deliver exceptional patient care.
We are seeking an experienced optometrist for a unique part-time opportunity that combines clinical expertise with relationship building, physician education, and practice development.
Position Summary
This position is ideal for a licensed optometrist who enjoys collaborating with colleagues and is interested in transitioning from full-time clinical practice into a more flexible, professionally rewarding role.
As our Clinical Liaison Optometrist, you will serve as the primary clinical connection between Colorado Retina Associates' physicians and our network of referring primary eye care providers. Rather than providing routine patient care, you will leverage your clinical knowledge to strengthen referral relationships, educate providers on retinal disease management and emerging treatments, facilitate communication between practices, and help ensure patients receive timely, coordinated specialty care.
Unlike a traditional healthcare sales position, this role is rooted in clinical credibility, peer-to-peer education, and collaborative patient care. You will work directly with our retina specialists to support the referring community while helping grow Colorado's leading retina practice.
Primary Responsibilities
Clinical Liaison & Provider Support
  • Serve as the primary clinical resource for referring optometrists and ophthalmologists.
  • Build trusted relationships with community eye care providers through regular in-person practice visits.
  • Provide education on retinal disease diagnosis, referral guidelines, imaging interpretation, new therapies, and clinical research.
  • Assist in answering provider questions regarding retinal diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and referral urgency.
  • Support our retina optometrist with management of our Curbside Consult text line and provider communications.
  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to ensure seamless communication and continuity of care for shared patients.

Referral Network Development
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a large network of referring eye care and primary care providers throughout the Denver Metro area.
  • Identify opportunities to expand referral relationships and introduce CRA physicians and services to new practices.
  • Re-engage inactive referral sources and strengthen existing partnerships through consistent communication and exceptional service.
  • Represent Colorado Retina Associates as a trusted clinical partner within the eye care community.

Education & Professional Outreach
  • Coordinate and host continuing education (COPE/CME) events, educational dinners, physician meetings, and practice-sponsored programs.
  • Collaborate with pharmaceutical and industry partners on educational initiatives.
  • Assist in developing educational materials and clinical resources for referring providers.
  • Represent CRA at local optometric conferences.

Strategy & Practice Development
  • Track provider interactions and referral trends.
  • Work with our Data Analyst to identify referral opportunities.
  • Work with our Director of Business Operations to idenfiy CRA physicians and gaps in clinic templates that need a boost in patient volume.
  • Collaborate with our Director of Marketing and Marketing Committee to grow CRA's referral network and strategize outreach methods.
  • Partner with our physician leadership and administrative and clinical operations teams to support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing feedback regarding referring provider and patient experience and opportunities to improve clinical workflows, communication and service.

Qualifications
Required
  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active Colorado optometry license (or eligibility for licensure).
  • 2+ years of clinical experience practicing optometry.
  • Strong understanding of posterior ocular disease.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a field-based environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (car not provided).

Preferred
  • Experience co-managing retinal disease with retina specialists.
  • Prior physician outreach, business development, or healthcare industry experience.
  • Experience planning continuing education programs or professional events.
  • Familiarity with managing data within an EHR platform.
  • Interest in emerging retinal therapies, clinical research, and physician education.

Work Schedule
  • Approximately 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
  • Primarily field-based throughout the Denver Metro area.
  • Approximately 70% local travel.
  • Occasional evening educational programs and professional events.
