Job Summary
The Graduate Assistant will provide educationally beneficial assistance to the Department of English. Graduate Assistants serve the department by teaching lower-division courses and tutoring in the Writing Center. Duties include mandatory training and regular departmental meetings.
Responsibilities
Teaching Courses - 55%
Prepares and delivers instructional materials for assigned lower-division English courses. Develops syllabi, assignments, and assessments in alignment with departmental guidelines.
Writing Center - 35%
Assists students in improving writing skills, including idea development, organization, clarity, and citation practices. Facilitates productive, student-centered tutoring sessions that promote learning and academic independence.
Other Duties as Assigned - 10%
Performs additional duties as assigned and participates in staff, committee, and other university meetings as appropriate and at the request of the supervisor.

Other Required Qualifications
Approved for regular admission to a graduate degree program at Georgia College & State University. Applicants must upload their acceptance letter under "Additional Documents" in the application.
Maintain academic good standing throughout the assistantship. If a student's GPA falls below 3.00 (academic warning), they will have the following semester or summer term to return to good standing before termination of the assistantship. If a student fails to return to good standing within that period, or receives academic exclusion and is dismissed from the degree program, the assistantship will be terminated immediately.
This position requires 19 hours per week of in-person work.
Full assistantships (19 hours/week) cover all but $25 of tuition. Applicable student fees are not covered by the assistantship.
Graduate Assistants must maintain a course load of at least 6 graduate semester hours.
Proposed Salary
Minimum $10.00 / hour
