Understand and work with clients within a wide range of business factors and operations, including data analysis and developing, implementing, analyzing, managing, and tracking projects and initiatives.

Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
SBDC Business Consultant's time is spent:
60% Direct Consulting
35% Training, Business Development, and Professional Development
5% Perform other duties as assigned
Solutions - Works with clients to develop financial pro forma statements, break-even analysis, management structure, organizational development, marketing (including a wide variety of channels and approaches), patents/trademarks, lease agreements, bidding tools, assessment of 8 key business functions, and any other small business issue.
Reporting - Captures critical client information in the center's MIS system, including contact information, demographics, a summary of each session, and the impact from the session(s).
Evaluation - Assures compliance with the center's customer satisfaction process. Reviews evaluations and develops correction plans as necessary.
Mentoring - Organizes and holds one mentoring session per week: inviting local business professionals to brainstorm ideas to solve clients' problems, summarizing findings, and following up with clients.
Requires use/operation of the following computer software: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Requires some travel within Southwest's region 3 counties (Adams, Valley, Washington, Boise, Payette, Gem, Canyon, Ada, Elmore, and Owyhee). Reliable transportation is required. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must complete internal consultant certification within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to help clients solve problems.
  • Knowledge of business management, accounting, marketing, strategic planning and all other business operations.
  • Effective planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to lead a team.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years experience or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's in Business and five years of experience operating a small business.
  • Knowledge of business management, accounting, marketing, strategic planning, and all other business operations. Must also have knowledge of resources available to help small businesses, including economic development at the local and state levels. Skills in consulting, problem-solving, computer literacy, and the ability to read and understand financial statements.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $30 to $33 an hour and is commensurate with experience. This position is non-benefit eligible.
