This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.
Job Description
This Cook position is responsible for preparing food for daily senior meals while maintaining a safe and sanitary environment. This role will be performing a wide variety of tasks, including keeping the kitchen organized and running efficiently, and ensuring proper food handling, storage, and inventory maintenance is performed.
Essential Duties
- Cooking and preparing food according to established or special menus
- Serving food to customers
- Maintaining records of temperature logs, inventory, supplies, etc.
- Ordering supplies
- Cleaning and operating food service equipment and applicable areas
- Ensuring proper food handling in accordance with ServSafe regulations
- Speaking with clients at the senior center and special events
- Utilizing interpersonal skills to convey or relay information to supervisors, peers, and clients
- Performing other duties of a similar nature
Other Job Requirements/Information
- This job requires fingerprinting.
- Physical Requirements: Due to the physical nature of the job, this role will require a physical and a 50-pound lift test
- Vision Requirement: Individual must be able to determine color variations to be able to detect spoiled foods. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors and extreme temperatures.
Hourly Rate
- The hourly rate is $15.75.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED AND
- One year of experience working as a cook
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, will also be considered.
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- One year experience working with seniors
- ServSafe Certification preferred (must be attached to application) or must obtain within the first 3 months of employment (Gwinnett County will provide training opportunity)
- CPR and First Aid Certification (within 6 months)
