Part Time Contractor information

What is a part time contractor?

A part time contractor is an individual who is hired to perform specific tasks or services for a company on a part-time basis, typically without being considered a full employee. They usually work under a contract that outlines the scope, duration, and payment terms of their work. Unlike full-time employees, part time contractors often have more flexible schedules, are responsible for their own taxes, and may not receive employee benefits such as health insurance or paid time off. This arrangement is common in industries like construction, IT, consulting, and creative services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time contractor?

To thrive as a Part Time Contractor, you need relevant expertise in your field, strong self-management abilities, and a track record of delivering quality work independently. Familiarity with project management tools like Trello or Asana, digital communication platforms, and sometimes specific certifications or licenses are often required. Exceptional time management, adaptability, and proactive communication are the soft skills that distinguish top contractors. These skills and qualities are crucial for meeting client expectations, managing variable workloads, and maintaining long-term professional relationships.

How does working as a part-time contractor impact collaboration with full-time employees and project teams?

As a part-time contractor, you may work remotely or on-site and often join existing teams for specific projects or tasks. While you typically have more flexible hours, communication and coordination are crucial, especially when aligning your schedule with full-time staff and meeting project deadlines. Many organizations use collaboration tools, regular check-ins, and clear documentation to ensure contractors are integrated into the workflow and can contribute effectively. Building relationships with team members and maintaining proactive communication can help you overcome any barriers associated with part-time or remote status.

What is the difference between Part Time Contractor vs Part Time Freelancer?

While both roles involve part-time work, Part Time Contractors usually work for a single employer with specific credentials and a structured environment. Part Time Freelancers operate independently, often with multiple clients, offering greater flexibility but less job security.

Part-Time Contractor

Cheekbone Beauty was founded in Canada in 2016 by Jennifer Harper. It is the first Indigenous-owned and founded colour cosmetics brand, on a mission to help every Indigenous person on the planet see and feel their enormous value while creating sustainable colour cosmetics that do not end up in a landfill.

Our Indigenous roots are woven into every aspect of our business.

Position Overview

Cheekbone Beauty is looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Brand Ambassador to support our Sales & Education team across select Sephora Canada locations in the Greater Toronto Area.

As a Brand Ambassador, you will represent Cheekbone Beauty in-store, build relationships with Sephora teams, educate customers and Beauty Advisors on our products and brand story, and help drive sales within your territory.

This is a flexible, part-time independent contractor opportunity averaging approximately 6 hours per week, with additional hours available for ad hoc events, activations and pop-ups.

The Brand Ambassador will generally visit two Sephora locations per week for approximately three hours per visit, rotating across eight locations within the GTA.

As a Brand Ambassador, You Will:

  • Build lasting relationships with Sephora store teams and leadership.
  • Educate Sephora Beauty Advisors on Cheekbone Beauty products, brand story and sales techniques.
  • Engage with customers as a Cheekbone Beauty brand expert.
  • Provide interactive product demonstrations and personalized product recommendations.
  • Drive in-store sales and support territory sales goals.
  • Coach and educate in a variety of store environments, including one-on-one and group settings.
  • Ensure Cheekbone Beauty merchandising and product displays meet brand standards.
  • Monitor product inventory, identify low-stock or merchandising concerns, and communicate issues to the Cheekbone Beauty team.
  • Support special promotions, launches, events, activations and pop-ups as required.
  • Provide feedback and observations following store visits.
  • Leave a positive and lasting impression with customers and store teams after every visit.

Territory

This position supports eight Sephora locations across the Greater Toronto Area:

  • Toronto Eaton Centre
  • Sherway Gardens
  • Bloor Street
  • Yorkdale
  • Dufferin Mall
  • Yonge & Eglinton

  • Square One

The successful contractor will be responsible for arranging and covering their own transportation and travel between assigned locations.

What We're Looking For

  • A genuine interest in beauty, cosmetics and the Cheekbone Beauty brand.
  • Previous experience in beauty, cosmetics, retail, sales, education, brand representation or another customer-facing environment is an asset.
  • Makeup artistry experience is preferred and considered a strong asset, but is not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to engage customers and store teams.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with store-level personnel and leadership.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Reliable, self-directed and comfortable working independently.
  • Ability to use a smartphone and maintain open communication through email, video calls, phone calls and text messages.
  • Ability to spend the majority of a store visit standing and walking.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10–15 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain a committed schedule while remaining adaptable to the needs of the business, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays and special events.
  • Ability to reliably travel between assigned Sephora locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Schedule & Commitment

  • Approximately 6 hours per week on average.
  • Typically 2 store visits per week, approximately 3 hours per visit.
  • Rotating coverage across 8 Sephora locations.
  • Additional hours may be available for events, activations, pop-ups, launches and other business needs.
  • Training and education will be provided.

This position offers an exciting and flexible opportunity to drive education and sales for an Indigenous cosmetics company within Sephora Canada while representing a brand committed to creating meaningful change within the beauty industry.
