Job description

Job Summary:

We are looking for a self-motivated experienced Legal assistant to ensure smooth running of the office and effective case management.  This position is part-time with potential to be full-time.  Under general supervision, you will provide a broad spectrum of legal services to ensure high-level day-to-day legal administrative support to the principal attorney and all legal staff, including answer phones, case management and other transactional assignments. Provide Corporate and Litigation secretarial support.  Must be able to work independantly and be able to work remotely, if needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate office activities and schedules, ensuring smooth office operations.
  • Receive and screen communications, including telephone calls and emails, and provide general assistance to clients.
  • Review and prepare miscellaneous legal documents, such as briefs, wills and trusts, real estate documents, corporate books, litigation preparation.
  • General research to assist legal staff.
  • Respond to letters and general correspondence of a routine nature.
  • General office duties such as copying, scanning, typing, preparing case files.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum Experience: 5 Years preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Corporate or transactional experience required
  • ERISA or medical billing experience preferred
  • Proven working experience as legal assistant or paralegal
  • Familiarity with legal procedures and protocols, eFiling, and court system
  • Satisfactory knowledge of day-to-day operations of a legal office
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all client and office information
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent secretarial and organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple activities and work under pressure
  • Minimum Typing Speed: 60 WPM
  • Experience with Westlaw or Lexis/Nexis preferred
  • Working knowledge of legal case management software; Experience with LEAP a plus
  • Public Notary preferred
