Part Time Contextual Inquiry Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Description
The School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University continually seeks qualified adjunct instructors to teach a variety of studio courses. This is an open call for part-time adjunct instructors in the area of Contextual and Social Practice. This area focuses on engaging students in the production of socially-engaged projects that respond to specific public contexts and audiences. The first undergraduate program of its kind in the United States, Contextual Practice includes experimental approaches to art making such as street art, participatory art, urban interventions, interactive social media, public installations, and politically-engaged art.
Examples of courses for which we seek instructors include Risk, Agency, Failure (RAF). RAF is a transdisciplinary media studio course where students will create artwork in their spring semester of their first year that confronts complex ideas with a non-medium-specific approach. Contextual and Social Practice coursework is also offered at the intermediate and advanced studio level.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis all year long. Candidates who meet the criteria for needed courses will be contacted during planning for the fall or spring semesters.

The School of Art is one of five schools within the College of Fine Arts, which also includes the Schools of Architecture, Design, Drama, and Music. Benchmarks of the School include collaborative relationships with innovative learning environments such as the Center for Arts in Society, the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, and IDeATe; and a unique curriculum that includes contextual practice, critical theory, and technology alongside programs in electronic and time-based media, painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have an MFA.
