Summary
Supports the City's efforts to inform, engage, and communicate with community members and other stakeholders via print, digital, and social media platforms. Responsible for creating both short- and long-form written and visual content, generating social media content, and supporting the Parks and Recreation Department's marketing efforts.
Schedule: This position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week. The work schedule is flexible and will be established with the manager upon hire. Regular hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend availability is required to attend City events.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develops, writes, and edits written content for a variety of mediums and audiences, including the City's print publications and website
  • Manages the Parks and Recreation Department's social media platforms by monitoring content, engaging with the community, and responding to inquiries
  • Partners with staff in Communications and Parks and Recreation to execute various marketing campaigns related to recreation programming, Community Center membership, SandVenture, and other City amenities and services
  • Supports the Communications Specialist - Digital Media with overall digital strategy implementation, including video content production, social media campaign execution, and website needs
  • Assists with event and program photography for the Parks and Recreation Department
  • Generates flyers, graphics, and other marketing materials for the Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with the Communications Specialist - Graphic Design
  • Provides professional, responsive customer service to internal and external audiences
  • Supports communications efforts for City events, public meetings and community engagement initiatives, which may include occasional evening or weekend work
  • Completes project-based assignments and other related duties as needed/assigned

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma
  • 1 year of experience in digital media, communications, social media management

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in communications, digital media, marketing or a related field
Additional Information

  • Friendly customer service skills and ability to work with the public in a professional, tactful manner
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Photography skills, including basic knowledge of lighting and composition
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize content management systems for maintaining and updating the City website
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and consistently meet established deadlines
  • Knowledge of Canva and Adobe Suite applications
