Job description

The purpose of this classification is clean and maintain Consolidated Government-owned buildings and facilities within the guidelines of County safety policies and procedures, departmental rules and regulations, supervisory instructions, and work orders. Works with co-workers and the public to provide custodial support.
Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards:
  • Provides custodial services to Consolidated Government buildings and facilities: vacuums, sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and/or shampoos carpet and floor surfaces located in hallways, stairs, offices, restrooms, kitchens, public rooms, elevators, storage rooms, and other areas.
  • Cleans, dusts, and polishes furniture, equipment, artwork, fixtures, surfaces, walls, wood paneling, window sills, trim, doors, cabinets, , and other surfaces: cleans telephones and office equipment/supplies.
  • Cleans, deodorizes and disinfects restrooms: cleans mirrors, toilets, urinals, sinks and other areas; and replenishes soap products and paper products as needed.
  • Cleans and maintains related areas: cleans and disinfects water fountains, telephones, or other public facilities; and/or cleans windows and blinds.
  • Empties trash containers and recycling containers: replaces trash liners in containers; picks up and disposes of trash from floor;; carries/transports trash to dumpster or other designated trash receptacle.
  • Maintains building security: turns off lights, unlocks/locks doors; and disarms/resets security alarm system.
  • Operates/utilizes various equipment, tools and supplies which may include a vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, buffing machine, mop, broom, cleaning supplies, alarm system and related tools and equipment
  • Utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
  • Assists in monitoring inventory levels of equipment, tools, or supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials; and stocks or distributes supply items.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Education: Highschool diploma or GED
Experience: One year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, County policies and procedures, and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in operating specialized cleaning equipment and hand tools.
  • Mastery of following instructions in relation to the use of safety devices and protective equipment in order to minimize the frequency and severity of work related accidents.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written. Interact positively with staff, co-workers and the public during the course of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Licensing/Certification:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

Other:
  • This position involves working in a secure area. Employee must meet and maintain clearance requirements set by the Sheriff's Department.
  • Travel from office to other locations is required for this position.
