Job description

Position Summary:

Mass. Ready Mix is looking for a Ready Mix Plant Operator to support daily concrete production at our Littleton plant. This role is responsible for batching concrete, monitoring plant operations, maintaining accurate production records, coordinating material needs, and helping keep the plant running safely and efficiently. The right person should understand concrete production, be comfortable with plant equipment, and be able to communicate clearly with dispatch, drivers, QC, mechanics, and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the ready mix batch plant and related plant equipment.
  • Batch concrete in accordance with approved mix designs, customer requirements, and project specifications.
  • Monitor loads for accuracy, consistency, and quality before release.
  • Maintain safe work practices and keep the plant area clean and organized.
  • Communicate with dispatch, drivers, QC, and supervisors regarding production needs, delays, issues, or material concerns.
  • Identify and report non-conforming material, equipment issues, batching concerns, or production problems.
  • Maintain accurate records for production, materials, inventory, and quality-related items.
  • Understand proper use of different concrete mix designs, admixtures, aggregates, cementitious materials, and water adjustments.
  • Schedule or coordinate deliveries of cement, aggregates, admixtures, fuel, and other plant supplies as needed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify management before shortages impact production.
  • Perform routine plant checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
  • Assist with troubleshooting plant equipment, controls, conveyors, bins, silos, scales, valves, and related systems.
  • Support mechanics, QC staff, and other plant personnel as needed.
  • Follow all company safety requirements and use required PPE at all times.
  • Perform other duties related to plant operations as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ready mix batching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of concrete materials, mix designs, and basic quality requirements preferred.
  • Familiarity with aggregates, gradations, admixtures, cement, fly ash, slag, and water adjustments is a plus.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge required.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and plant control systems preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand job specifications, batch tickets, mix designs, and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly by phone, radio, and in person.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and unit conversions.
  • ACI Field Testing certification is a plus but not required.
  • CDL is a plus but not required.
  • Previous supervisory or lead operator experience is a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an active plant environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, and work around plant equipment.
  • Ability to lift and move materials as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility clothing, gloves, reinforced toe footwear, and hearing protection.
