The Student Computer Technician is responsible for providing supervision and support for users of the college's open computer labs. Provides technical assistance for college desktop computers, related equipment, and software applications in computer classrooms, labs, and offices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a current PGCC student enrolled with a course load of 12 credits or more per semester with a PGCC grade point average of 2.50 or above.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of course INT-1010 (Introduction to Information Technology) or equivalent course is required.
  • Completion of INT-1540 (Computer Hardware I) or equivalent course is required.
  • Previous technology experience is preferred, but not required.
  • PGCC Information Technology related major is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience providing customer service is preferred, but not required.
Criteria
The following criteria will be used to review the applications of those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and select those who will be invited for an interview. In addition to the criteria listed below, other information gained from, and observations made during the interview process may be considered in selecting candidates to be recommended for appointment.   • Must have a positive, upbeat, and courteous attitude.

  • Ability to provide quality customer services working with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Knowledge of principles and operations of computer systems and related peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot end-user problems on-site or via the telephone.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of current technology and able to learn new technology.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, accurately and effectively in both verbal and written, as well as on the telephone.
  • Ability to understand and respond to user questions in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to convey technical procedures and directions in layman's terms
  • Proficiency in the operation and use of personal computers, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, email, and Microsoft Operating systems.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Prince George's Community Colleges' students, faculty, staff, and community.
Job Requirements
  • Must have reliable transportation to fulfill scheduled work commitments. This includes timely arrival for the start of your shift.
  • Must be available to work approximately 10 hours per week. The shifts will be agreed upon between the Student and Data Science, Innovation, and Effectiveness Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
