Therapeutic Activity Assistant - Part-time
Hours are 8:30am - 4pm, Friday - Sunday
Franke Tobey Jones, a beautiful, historic retirement community in North Tacoma (by Pt. Defiance) is seeking a Therapeutic Activity Assistant.
Our Therapeutic Activity Assistants provide a valuable service for our residents, which directly increases the quality of their retirement years. Working closely with other Activities personnel, the Assistant plans, facilitates and documents a wide variety of large and small group activities that promote physical, spiritual, cognitive, social, and emotional health. They also provide 1 to 1 individual activities for those residents who generally do not benefit from group activities.
The ideal applicant strives for high quality standards, is friendly, energetic, creative, enjoys interacting with our residents, and seeks to help others in a meaningful way. We are looking for someone with experience leading activities -- ideally with an elderly population, basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), a WA driver's license in good standing and dementia and mental health training certification is highly desired for this position although not required.
Requirements

  • Set-up and clean-up resident group and individual activities and ensure that activity areas are safe before, during, and after each activity.
  • Assist with resident transportation to and from group activities.
  • Independently plan and lead regularly scheduled daily group activities to meet the social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of each resident.
  • Document resident's involvement in scheduled activities and 1:1 visits.
  • Delivering resident's mail daily.
  • Communicate available programs to the residents and encourage participation.
  • Assists with planning monthly activity calendar
  • Welcomes and assists new residents in adjusting to our community
  • Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, report, etc., and submitting such to the Director of Life Enrichment as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Able to self-direct, switch directions, and complete tasks despite frequent interruptions
  • Able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Able to stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout the workday
  • Possess basic computer skills and ability to be trained on job-specific software
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to exercise professional judgment
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to form positive relationships with persons of all ages and cultural backgrounds
  • Possess patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as being willing to interact with residents based on their current cognitive functioning level
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Dependable, team-player, caring and able to foster atmosphere of dignity and respect
  • Requires a positive attitude and high energy level
