Job description

General Summary/Responsibilities:

STATUS: Part-Time / 64h per pay period
Department: Pharmacy
Shifts: varied
Facility: Miami Valley Hospital

A certified pharmacy technician, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, engage in the following activities to the extent that the activities do not require the exercise of professional judgment:

  1. Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile

  1. Preparing and affixing labels

  1. Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory

  1. Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers

  1. Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist

  1. Non-sterile drug compounding following the completion of site-specific training

  1. Sterile drug compounding following the completion of a site-specific training

  1. Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts

Qualificationsย 

Education

Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED

  • Preferred educational qualifications: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)ย 

  • Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a "Certified Pharmacy Technician" or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.

Experienceย 

Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experienceย 

Preferred experience: Prior hospital, long-term care or retail experience preferredย 

Knowledge/Skillsย 

  • Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skillsย 

  • Able to read and write printed material in Englishย 

  • Proficiency with computer keyboard operationsย 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferredย 

  • Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy.ย  Must be familiar with pharmacy software

  • Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member

  • Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
