START DATE - Beginning of the 2026 - 2027 School Year
LOCATION - Adult Transition Program - 4 Opening (s)
SALARY - Per the Berkley Education Association of Paraeducators (BEAP)
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess:
  1. High School Diploma required: 2 years college preferred.
  2. An experienced Paraeducator with background assisting a student with disabilities.
  3. Applicant should have general knowledge of high school curriculum in reading, writing, math and science and possess skills in these areas at the secondary school level.
  4. The applicant must be a positive, upbeat individual who is caring and flexible and must be able to adjust to the physical and emotional needs of the student.
  5. Applicant must be cooperative, dependable, show initiative and accept direction.
  6. Knowledge of computer assisted instruction, typing is desirable.
  7. C.P.I. training with current record on file or willing to be trained.
  8. Able to lift at least 50 pounds, stoop, bend and kneel on one of both knees, as well as physically manage student if necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional:
  • Assist student in the general education classroom with note taking, testing, etc.
  • Assistant in encouraging independent toileting.
  • Assist with student's participation in small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Assist in checking and correction of papers and preparation of materials under the direction of the teacher.
  • Assist with audio-visual and computer setups and operation.
  • Monitor the instruction activities of the student and assist as appropriate or as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Assist caseload teacher with daily home-school assignment book/log.

General Responsibilities:
  • The applicant may need to assist student at lunch time.
  • The applicant will maintain flexible hours of employment and adjust working time to the student's needs as determined by the classroom teacher and other school professional staff.
  • Assist the teacher in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assist in maintaining files and records.
  • The applicant will perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, special education coordinator and building administrator.
