Job Summary
This position exists to support Minnesota IT Services security, performing a variety of tasks that support security in the areas of governance, monitoring, secure development, engineering, and/or vulnerability and threat management. While learning and performing established roles within security, the Info Security Student Workers will be responsible for drawing on outside experiences to channel recommendations and innovation to relevant managers through open and non-disruptive means. The Info Security Student Workforce will provide an infusion of inquiry, introspection, and innovation to the state's security team.
This position is telework eligible for applicants who reside in Minnesota or in a bordering state, with supervisory approval and satisfactory performance. If you live in a state bordering Minnesota, you must live within 50 miles of less from the primary work location to be eligible for telework.
Telework arrangements and policy updates may be adjusted based on business needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume.
Education:
Student Worker Eligibility - To be eligible for an appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional, you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college program as a junior, senior, or graduate student.
- Academic programs can include Computer Science or Information Security
Experience:
- Educational or practical experience with information security operations, or design
- Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties
- Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Programming or scripting experience.
- Technical writing experience.
- Experience defining and Implementing security tools and processes.
- Entry-level certification such as CompTIA Security+
