Job description

The Body Shop Technician is able to repair vehicle bodies and straighten vehicle frames both steel and aluminum repair as well as fiber glass repairs; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments in the Body Shop Department of a retail dealership environment.

HLAs HIGH LEVERAGE ACTIVITIES (focus actions that will return the highest impact):

· Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic test; identifying worn and damaged parts focusing on safety, quality and customer up time.

· Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering and frame components .

  • Corrects Non-structural damage, Structural damage.
  • Proficient in Welding and cutting, Plastic repair, Fiber glass repair, Minor mechanical and Electrical repair.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

· Works with body shop management to develop and achieve challenging individual goals for production and quality work.

· Completes repair assignments correctly to pass quality inspections, preparation standards for painting department, and per agreed upon estimate.

· Collects all necessary information before requesting additional parts.

· Meets or exceeds productivity goals and objectives.

· Notifies manager or estimator promptly when undiscovered damage or other delays occur.

· Promotes a productive working relationship with others.

· Provides clear and legible record of service completed or additional repairs needed for both customer and dealership use.

· Assists estimators and service advisors as necessary to explain repairs to customers or determine estimates.

· Assists other technicians when requested.

· Prioritizes work to meet demands and customer needs; plans ahead to complete work in allotted time frames.

· Makes decisions regarding repair options; asks for assistance if necessary.

· Completes repair orders within specified time frame, foresees delays, and alerts appropriate personnel promptly.

· Performs preventive maintenance, cleaning, and repairs on dealership tools and equipment; ensures facility is always clean and organized.

· Performs factory warranty repairs according to established procedures.

· Follows all hazardous waste and OSHA safety regulations and company policies.

· Stays up to date on the latest technical services through training, vendors, etc.

· Properly disposes of used parts and returns unused parts to the counterperson.

· Uses manuals including diagrams as necessary to complete repairs.

· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

· High school diploma or GED is required. Combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

· Related technical school training preferred.

· Minimum of two years experience (four or more preferred).

· ICAR certification preferred, not necessary.

· ASE certification preferred, not necessary.

· Necessary tools to perform job responsibilities.

· Ability to work and learn independently.

· Strong written/ verbal communication skills required.

· Ability to use various Windows based computer software.

· Valid commercial drivers license preferred, not necessary.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Duties are performed throughout the inside and outside of the building(s). Employee is exposed to dirt, dust, heat, cold, noise and vibration, fumes and odors, wetness and humidity, and sometimes darkness. Employee is required to stand, walk, kneel, squat, crawl, bend, and twist. Employee may have to climb and/or lift up to and over 80 pounds frequently. Visual requirements are constant. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Due to the nature of the environment, employee is exposed to potential mechanical, chemical, electrical and fire hazards on a regular basis.
