Job description

Job Type: Permanent Full-Time (Sun to Thurs, 8-6pm)

Pay: $60,398 per annum

About the Role

We are looking for a Team Lead to join our Leadership team. Team Leads provide supervision, mentorship, and leadership to front line staff while also supporting the delivery of direct services. In this role, you will be instrumental in guiding a team that responds to vulnerable individuals in the community, with the goal of building trust, reducing barriers, and connecting clients to housing, treatment, and health services.

As part of the Leadership team, you will support operations by responding to crises, conducting performance reviews, debriefing staff, hiring, and providing high quality care alongside the front line. You will also partner with community agencies, police, EMS, and Transit to create collaborative strategies for client support. In this role, your responsibilities would include the following:

  • Leading and modeling non-judgmental, client-centered care using a harm reduction and trauma-informed lens
  • Provide coaching, training, supervision and verbal discipline to front line staff
  • Conduct performance reviews, assist with hiring interviews, and make recommendations on probation or termination
  • Support team members during crisis situations and conduct debriefings afterward
  • Ensure accurate scheduling and shift coverage
  • Updating our payroll system with attendance codes to ensure staff are paid appropriately using UKG
  • Conducting monthly check-ins with part-time and casual staff
  • Oversee and manage program resources and supplies, including submitting purchase orders
  • Report to the Program Manager or HR on team functioning or staff issues of a serious nature
  • Provide input and updates to Program Managers for reports and funding requirements
  • Support client housing efforts, including completing housing assessments (NSQs)
  • Engage in public education, volunteer training, and relationship-building with other community agencies
  • Respond to concerns from businesses and community stakeholders on behalf of Alpha House
  • Maintain safety and infection prevention procedures, including decontamination protocols

About You

The Community Housing team case manages clients who are independentally in the community, and it's important that the candidate has a fundamental understanding of the addiction and harm reduction. The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • Minimum two years of experience leading a team
  • Experience in addictions, mental health, homelessness or working with Indigenous populations
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field from a publicly funded institution (minimum two-year degree or diploma, those in progress may be considered)
  • Strong understanding of harm reduction, withdrawal management, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented systems
  • Class 5 Alberta (non-GDL) driver’s license, three years of driving experience, and a clean five year driver’s abstract
  • Proven crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
  • Experience supervising and debriefing staff or facilitating groups
  • Compassionate, non-judgmental, and supportive toward vulnerable populations
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and organizational skills
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, accountability, and act with professionalism
  • Proficient with MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Understanding of privacy laws and the Protection of Persons in Care Act
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Search (within the last six months) with no material findings
  • Ability to gain Privacy certification and lift training
  • Ability to physically assist clients from prone to sitting or standing positions
  • Able to drive an agency van and use own vehicle for work if needed
