Summary of Purpose
Did you know that Oakland Community College (OCC) serves the local community with learning opportunities beyond the traditional academic or workforce setting?
We are seeking community members to become part-time community education instructors. Our multi-campus institution is committed to lifelong learning for all and we happily extend beyond our buildings getting out into the community.
We want to learn the interests in the area and then offer
Community Education courses and programs to meet the demand!
Do you have a desire to teach a skill to others? You could be paid to do it! We have a team ready to assist you along the way; from concept to delivery we work with you to make it happen!
Our community is dynamic and as a result, we accept applications on a continual basis for our Community Education Casual Instructor positions. Some areas of focus we have currently are: personal growth, culinary, safety, wellness, and personal interest.

Typical Duties
This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:
- Engages students in activities and/or strategies that increase understanding of classroom or curricula topic
- Holds a solid knowledge in the subject areas they wish to teach
- Provides students/participants with positive and constructive feedback (as applicable)
- May be asked to attend an orientation and/or training(s)
- Depending on course or program content, may develop training materials and/or course curriculum
- Helps with classroom setup or room environment (to have a successful educational or fun experience)
- Promotes classes where they are the instructor to their own audience (e.g., social media posts, hanging flyers, etc.)
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Ability to communicate ideas to others
- Interest in helping others
- Experience with leading and/or teaching in a group setting
- Can work both independently as well as within a team environment

Other Necessary Requirements:
- We would like applicants to be at least 18 years of age
- Work hours vary depending on course type and format and may include weekends and/or weekday evenings
- Part of our hiring process includes:
- passing a criminal background check,
- completing a Form I-9 in-person,
- completing onboarding documents such as direct deposit and tax forms
- Community Education Classes are conducted in-person
- Casual Instructors should already reside within the State of Michigan or be relocating prior to class start, at their own expense
This position is not associated with any OCC benefits except for MPSERS (Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System) with ORS (the Michigan Office of Retirement Services).
