Job description

Position: Part-Time Barista

Department:  The Abbey Coffee Company

Reports to: Café Manager

Compensation Path:

  • Starting pay: $9.00/hour
  • Increase to $10.00/hour upon successfully passing our Barista Certification Test
  • Increase to $11.00/hour after 6 months of employment
  • Tips are paid in addition to your hourly wage and are not included in the rates listed above

General Job Description:  The Abbey Coffee Company is to curate a space of quality tastes and conversations. Baristas make this goal a reality in quality customer service, consistent drink preparation, bettering themselves as coffee connoisseurs, and serving their team, coworkers,  and community with a standard of continued growth. 

Customer Relations

  • Greets all customers with fast and personalized service and develops rapport with customers by learning names, favorite drink, etc. 
  • Takes and fulfills customer orders in a friendly, quick manner all while maintaining top level quality
  • Answers and kindly explains questions about The Abbey product line as well as the café vision 

Café

  • Maintains merchandise including: Whole Bean Coffee, Chocolates, Abbey Mugs and other related products
  • Responsible to clean: bar area, café seating and tables, guest restroom, kitchen area, in house dishes and other areas as assigned by Café Manager
  • Bakes and sells pastries for daily sales
  • Restocks supplies and updates stock count
  • Restock merchandise and whole bean offering
  • Follows training guidelines for drink preparation to maintain a consistent experience between customer visits 
  • Continuously seeks development in knowledge of coffee and tea offerings
  • Prepares seasonal drinks, syrups, and other bar used ingredients 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be able to maintain a positive and professional attitude throughout whole working shift 
  • Must be willing to provide top level customer service and hold a high level of kindness and patience with each and every customer
  • Strong verbal communication skills required
  • Be able to stand for up to 5-9 hour shift 
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Passion for coffee and desire to grow knowledge outside of planned training
  • High School Degree Required
