What is a part time coding internship?

Part time coding internships are temporary positions for students or aspiring programmers that allow them to gain practical experience in software development while working fewer hours than a full-time internship. These internships typically involve working on coding projects, learning new programming languages, and collaborating with experienced developers, all while accommodating academic schedules or other commitments. They are ideal for those seeking hands-on experience without the time demands of a full-time role, and they can often lead to future job opportunities or help build a professional portfolio.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect in a part time coding internship?

In a part-time coding internship, youโ€™ll typically work on real-world projects such as developing new features, fixing bugs, or assisting with testing and documentation. Your daily tasks may include writing and reviewing code, collaborating with team members via code repositories, and attending stand-up meetings. Interns often have the opportunity to learn from experienced developers and participate in code reviews, which helps build practical skills and understanding of industry best practices. The workload is usually structured to accommodate your part-time schedule, allowing you to balance work with other commitments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a part time coding internship, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Part Time Coding Internship, you typically need a basic understanding of programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript, along with coursework or projects demonstrating your coding ability. Familiarity with version control systems like Git and development environments such as Visual Studio Code is often expected. Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and effective communication help interns stand out and integrate well with teams. These skills and qualities enable interns to contribute meaningfully to projects, adapt quickly, and build a foundation for future software development roles.

Job description

As of January 1, 2025: In accordance with Education Code section 44939.5, you are required by law to provide a complete list of every school district, county office of education, charter school and/or state special school that you have previously been employed no matter the length of service. Please include any part-time and/or substitution work in addition to any full-time employment positions. Failure to disclose any school district, county office of education, charter school and/or state special school that you have previously been employed may be deemed dishonesty in the hiring process and/or dishonesty following termination. CUHSD will provide a section where certificated job seekers can enter this information.
We currently have Board approval for up to $2,000 per semester for Social Worker interns. Once the budgeted cap has been reached, the District will still support unpaid internships for qualified candidates based on site need and capacity.
For paid internships, the candidate will receive funds at the end of the semester to ensure services were provided throughout.
The process to become a school counseling intern with our District includes:

  • Candidates submitย an application.
  • Pending need, candidates may be contacted by a Human Resources representative or site administrator.
  • If a mutual fit between a candidate and CUHSD has been confirmed with the Principal, the Human Resources department will confirm that there is an active Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the candidate's program.
    • If there is an active MOU, the candidate will be sent a packet to get cleared for service as a Social Worker Intern.
    • If there is NOT an active MOU, aย Human Resources representative will initiate the process with the candidate's Field Placement Coordinator. This process includes reviewing and confirming terms of the agreement, followed by Board approval, and formally signing the agreement.
  • Once the candidate has been cleared, the site administrator leadย will be notified and detailsย finalized.
