Overview: BRICK Networks is seeking a mission-aligned and detail-oriented Part-Time Senior Accountant with experience in New Jersey charter school or district finance operations. This role will be responsible for supporting monthly closings, budget maintenance, financial reporting, and compliance with NJDOE charter school requirements. The ideal candidate has working knowledge of fund accounting, hands-on experience with CDK software, and the ability to analyze financial performance to support leadership in data-driven decision-making.

Essentail Functions
Monthly & Quarterly Duties
• Support the month-end close process in CDK: journal entries, bank reconciliations, and allocation of revenues and expenditures across funds.
• Prepare and update the NJDOE budget format and board-approved amendments in coordination with the School
Business Administrator.
• Maintain general ledger and ensure appropriate classification of transactions by program and function.
• Prepare financial reports including board packets, budget-to-actual comparisons, and variance analyses.
• Assist with quarterly reports and cash flow reviews.
Audit & Compliance
• Support preparation for the annual financial audit and audit questionnaire.
• Assist with internal controls documentation and year-end schedules.
• Ensure compliance with NJ Chart of Accounts (program-function-object coding) and NJ Charter School fiscal requirements.
Grants & Financial Planning
• Monitor restricted fund activity (e.g., Title I-IV, IDEA) and support tracking of grant budgets.
• Support projections, budget reforecasts, and multi-year modeling as needed.
What Does Success Look Like?
6-Month Success Metrics
• Accurately closes books monthly in CDK within 10 business days with <2% error rate.
• Prepares complete and accurate financial statements and budget-to-actual reports each month.
• Submits timely and compliant budget amendments and supports NJDOE submissions.
• Supports a clean audit with no material findings related to general ledger or fund balances.
• Proactively identifies budget risks or grant compliance issues before they arise.
Annual Success Metrics
• Completes year-end close within 15 days post fiscal year-end, with reconciliations fully tied out.
• Supports a clean audit (unmodified opinion) with no significant deficiencies.
• Identifies and implements at least three process improvements that streamline month-end close, reporting, or internal controls.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MPA a plus).
• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years in a NJ public school or charter school environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of fund accounting, especially for government/charter entities.
• Experience using CDK Systems (CDK Systems, Inc. - school accounting software) required.
• Familiarity with NJDOE budget format and EWEG platform preferred.
Skills & Attributes
• Strong Excel skills and ability to work with datasets, pivot tables, and formulas.
• Understanding of the NJ chart of accounts (programs, functions, object codes).
• Ability to interpret financial data and explain it to non-finance stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated; able to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Current authorization to work in the United States - A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
