As of Jul 17, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time civil engineering in Tennessee is $75,036.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $61,300.00 and $89,400.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior civil engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and leadership roles can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially in large infrastructure projects or consulting firms. Achieving this level often requires advanced certifications, a strong track record, and working in high-demand environments or managerial positions.

Is AI replacing civil engineers?

AI is increasingly used in civil engineering for tasks such as data analysis, design optimization, and project management, but it does not replace civil engineers. Professionals are needed to interpret AI outputs, oversee projects, and apply engineering judgment, making AI a tool that enhances rather than replaces the role. Civil engineers with skills in technology and data analysis are well-positioned for evolving industry demands.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Civil Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Civil Engineer, you generally need a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in mathematics and physical sciences. Familiarity with technical tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and project management software, as well as an EIT or PE certification (if applicable), is typically required. Excellent time management, communication, and problem-solving abilities help you effectively balance part-time work while contributing to projects. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality engineering solutions efficiently and maintaining strong collaboration within project teams.

What are part time civil engineering jobs?

Part time civil engineering jobs are positions within the civil engineering field that require employees to work fewer hours than a standard full-time role, often allowing for flexible schedules. These positions might involve assisting with design, planning, supervision of construction projects, or site inspections, typically under the guidance of senior engineers. Part time roles are ideal for students, recent graduates, or professionals seeking work-life balance or supplementary income. Responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on the employer and specific project needs.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a part-time civil engineer expect to handle?

Part-time civil engineers often support ongoing projects by assisting with site inspections, drafting plans using CAD software, preparing reports, and helping with project documentation. While they may not always lead projects, they play a crucial role in quality assurance, data collection, and collaborating with full-time engineers and project managers. This role can offer valuable exposure to real-world engineering challenges and is an excellent way to gain experience in various phases of civil engineering projects while maintaining a flexible schedule.

What is the difference between Part Time Civil Engineering vs Part Time Civil Engineering Technician?

Both roles are integral to civil projects but differ in responsibilities and qualifications.

Can you make $500,000 as a civil engineer?

Part-time civil engineers typically do not earn $500,000 annually, as this level of income is more common for senior or specialized roles with extensive experience, management responsibilities, or consulting work. Most civil engineers earn between $60,000 and $120,000 per year, depending on location, experience, and industry sector.

Can you work part-time as a civil engineer?

Yes, civil engineering can be a part-time profession, often involving flexible schedules or consulting roles.
