Job description

Choate Rosemary Hall seeks qualified candidates for the position of Muslim Chaplain. The position is an academic-year, part-time faculty member with a start date in August.

The Muslim Chaplain is primarily responsible for supporting the spiritual formation, religious observance, and pastoral care of students within a specific faith tradition while contributing to the School's broader multifaith spiritual life program. The Chaplain collaborates with the Director of Spiritual Life and fellow chaplains to foster a community that encourages meaning-making, moral development, religious literacy, and spiritual exploration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

As Muslim Chaplain:

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive spiritual life program for students within the assigned faith tradition.
  • Plan and lead worship services and religious observances.
  • Provide pastoral care and spiritual counseling to students as requested.
  • Serve as a resource for parents and families within the assigned faith tradition.
  • Meet weekly with the student Spiritual Life student organization.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Director of Spiritual Life and participate in Spiritual Life Team meetings.
  • Assist with school-wide multifaith and ecumenical programming, including:
    • Days of Service
    • Holy day celebrations
    • Baccalaureate
    • Alumni Memorial Service
    • Multifaith conversations
    • Other Spiritual Life initiatives
  • Support students outside the assigned faith tradition who seek to learn more through conversation, programming, or Religious Studies courses.
  • Serve as an active member of the Spiritual Life Team in advancing opportunities for spiritual exploration, religious education, ethical reflection, and community belonging.
  • Maintain a visible presence within the life of the School.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Equity and Inclusion, Director of Spiritual Life, or Head of Student and Academic Life.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
  • Communicate with faculty and staff regarding student support as appropriate.
  • Assist with transportation and logistics for faith-related programming as needed.
  • Support special events sponsored by the Office of Spiritual Life.
  • Participate in admissions or community events when requested.
