Job description

Overview

To provide case management for the Elizabeth Corps social service programs under the direction of the Elizabeth Homeless Shelter Lead Case Worker with professional supervision provided by Divisional Headquarters Human Services Staff when requested. The shelter caseworker will be able to identify the needs of the clients served and provide outreach within the community at large.

Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the required duties. The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce or expand the duties of this position at any time. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role. Perform intakes, interviews, and assessments of shelter clients' needs and perform follow-up case management. Identify and interact with case management clients; provide comprehensive case management including but not limited to assessment of client needs, developing a plan of action utilizing a strengthsbased approach, and identifying internal and external programs that would support their pathway to self-sufficiency. This includes clients who are at risk of becoming homeless referred by the Corps on a case-to-case basis. Coordinate services with partner agencies to ensure a holistic service approach for all clients. Maintain accurate, confidential, and updated case records in accordance with The Salvation Army and Shelter Grants record-keeping policies and procedures. Attend internal and community workshops and support lead case manager as needed. Prepare and maintain Salvation Army statistical reports for timely submission. Attend and participate in regular staff meetings/ trainings and individual supervision meetings as required. Uphold the standards and principles of The Salvation Army's mission and ministry. Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Human Services related field from an accredited institution preferred. At least 1 to 2 years of experience in case management or counseling.

Desired Qualifications Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Be able to effectively carry a minimum client caseload of 15 cases. Strong written and verbal communication skills Possess organizational skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Word, Excel, Access. Knowledgeable of County and community resources. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to establish rapport. Ability to maintain confidentiality of interactions with clients and fellow employees. Awareness and sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of populations served. Must be willing to work rotating shifts, have alternating hours depending upon call/need (e.g. covering other staff member of scheduled vacation or sick time) Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
