Job description

Description:

AfriThrive is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and customer-focused Part-Time Driver to support our food access, agriculture, and community programs. This position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of food, produce, supplies, equipment, and other organizational assets to farms, community distribution sites, partner organizations, and other locations. The Driver also assists with loading, unloading, and general operational support. Weekend availability is required as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate AfriThrive vehicles, including refrigerated trucks, vans, and other organizational vehicles, following assigned delivery and pickup schedules and communicating promptly regarding delays or route changes.
  • Transport food, produce, supplies, equipment, and donations by loading, unloading, securing, and delivering materials in accordance with safe lifting, food handling, and transportation standards.
  • Support food distributions, farm operations, community events, and warehouse activities, including setting up and breaking down distribution sites, assisting with inventory and logistics, and coordinating volunteers as assigned.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain assigned vehicles by refueling, cleaning, reporting maintenance or safety concerns, and keeping accurate vehicle, mileage, fuel, and delivery records.
  • Provide excellent customer service by interacting professionally and respectfully with participants, volunteers, donors, community partners, and staff while adhering to all organizational safety policies, food safety standards, and standard operating procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations team and perform other duties as assigned in support of AfriThrive's mission.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Medical Card).
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate AfriThrive vehicles, including refrigerated trucks and cargo vans.
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations within the past two years, no major violations within the past ten years, and no DUI convictions or citations.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and maintain DOT medical certification.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and logistical abilities with the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, food service, warehouse operations, retail, social services, or a similarly fast-paced environment is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends based on program needs.
