School Camp Director

School of Rock is the original performance-based, interactive music school founded in 1998 in Philadelphia. With over 350 schools and a strong, internationally recognized brand, School of Rock is the largest after-school music education provider. Our mission is to help kids rock their worlds.

Our part-time Camp Instructor embodies rock and roll in a positive way and is responsible for creating the most valuable student experience possible. This role creates a safe and inspiring environment for students to achieve their musical and creative potential and ensures that each School of Rock student has an exceptional musical journey.


Roles and Responsibilities

Camp Instructors are responsible for making sure camp rehearsals run smoothly and that each student is progressing throughout the week. They should follow the Camp Director's lead and help deliver a fun, educational experience for all the campers. Here are a few key responsibilities of a Camp Instructor:

  • Facilitate the daily activities of the camp and manage the progression of each student. This includes running a rehearsal room and providing individual instruction when needed.

  • Report daily progress to the Music Director and inform them of any issues with any students, songs, or casting decisions.

  • Help run the camp theme of the week by managing the students both on and off the stage.

  • Create an inclusive environment and manage student behavior. Camp Instructors should immediately report any major issues to school management.

  • Help get new students excited about joining a seasonal program at School of Rock.

Skill Requirements:

  • 1 + years of experience teaching and/or working in a camp setting.

  • Knowledge of music theory and the ability to follow a curriculum.

  • Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers and other people

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Very strong customer relations skills

  • Resourceful and good problem-solver

  • Works well under pressure

  • Ideal candidate is a working musician (actively gigging, recording, or playing in a band)

  • College-level music training/education is helpful

  • Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor

  • Good judgment a must

  • Availability to work summer camps for the full week (Monday-Friday, 9 am-3 pm/4 pm). Camps are held the week of June 1st through August 7th (can be flexible to miss 1 or 2 weeks)
