Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and dynamic Instructor to teach a comprehensive course designed for skilled tradesmen and experienced workers looking to transition into business ownership. The ideal candidate will possess a mix of hands-on experience running a service-based business and a passion for adult education. They will guide students through the mechanics of legal compliance, startup financial modeling, field service operations, and tactical marketing. The ultimate goal is helping each student develop, refine, and present a launch-ready business plan.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Instruction and Lesson Delivery
  • Deliver interactive lessons on starting and scaling a service-based trade business.
  • Provide real-world examples of field service workflows, client management, and pricing structures.
  • Adapt complex business and financial jargon into simple terms accessible to tradesmen.
  • Track and keep records of student enrollment and progress.

Financial and Operational Guidance
  • Guide students in analyzing business concept feasibility to minimize risk.
  • Direct exercises on calculating exact startup costs and setting profitable labor rates.
  • Teach students how to read and interpret basic cash flow projections, profit & loss layouts, and balance sheets.
  • Demonstrate the setup and implementation of modern operational software (e.g., job scheduling, quoting, invoicing apps).

Mentorship and Final Evaluations
  • Review, critique, and provide actionable feedback on student business plans throughout the term.

Core Competencies
  • Deep understanding of local small-business legal structures (LLCs, sole proprietorships, licenses, business insurance).
  • Strong literacy in small business finance, job costing, and standard book-keeping concepts.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills tailored to a diverse adult demographic.

Minimum qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of firsthand experience owning or managing a service-based or trades company.
  • Prior experience in corporate training, adult education, or community workshop instruction.
  • Baccalaureate or Graduate degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, or a closely related trade field is preferred. Professional certifications, specific documented training and additional related work experience may be substituted for education on a two for one year basis.
  • Three or more years of teaching/training experience. Prior experience working with adult learners.
