The Opportunity:

The Recreation Worker plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits which promotes wellbeing, purpose, creativity, a sense of community, lifelong learning, and fun.

The Recreation Worker facilitates planned and spontaneous opportunities to support the maintenance and development of resident skills and knowledge as well as the development of relationships and personal connections.
What Is In It For You:

  • Assists in development, planning and implementing daily recreation and leisure activities, both in the home and in the community, using a collection of holistic resident information and choices, and in a manner that reflects AgeCare's philosophy and approach to resident programming.

  • Assists in creating and maintaining engaging spaces/environments in the home that support meaningful resident activity and participation.

  • Develops and maintains good communications with residents and their families, friends, as well as volunteers, community groups and agencies.

  • Observes, reports and documents as required, any changes in the resident's ability to participate in activities, updating plan of care as appropriate.

  • Supports all departments in their efforts to foster resident engagement in meaningful ways.

  • Models the way, leading programs in a manner that supports and maximizes residents' skills and abilities.

  • Participates in the on-going evaluation of the recreation program and related quality improvement processes.

What You Will Need:

  • Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care setting.

  • Graduate of a post-secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or other related field from a community college or university.

  • Enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or other related field with the intent to successfully complete the program within three years of being hired.

OR

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a health care related field and demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a health care setting including:

    • Planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities across all domains of wellness for individuals of varying levels of functioning,

    • Assessment, care planning and other related documentation,

    • Therapeutic programming techniques and approaches,

    • Application of recreation and leisure principles and practices and implementation of these in a long-term care or health care setting,

    • And supporting others to foster a culture of resident engagement.

Salary: $23.46 per hourSalary placement based on qualifications and experience.
