Part Time Buyer information

What is a part time buyer?

A Part Time Buyer is responsible for purchasing goods and services for a company on a part-time basis. Their duties include researching suppliers, negotiating prices, placing orders, and ensuring timely delivery. They often work in retail, manufacturing, or supply chain industries to manage inventory and procurement needs without a full-time commitment.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for a part time buyer?

As a Part Time Buyer, your typical day may involve researching and evaluating suppliers, requesting and comparing quotes, and placing purchase orders for goods or materials needed by your organization. In addition, you'll often monitor inventory levels, track deliveries, and resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise with orders. Collaboration with other departments, such as operations and accounting, is common to ensure that purchasing aligns with budget and project timelines. This role is ideal for those who are detail-oriented and can manage multiple priorities efficiently within limited working hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the part time buyer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Buyer, you need a solid understanding of purchasing processes, negotiation skills, and preferably a background in supply chain or business administration. Familiarity with procurement software, inventory management systems, and occasionally certifications like Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) can be beneficial. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders are key soft skills. These competencies enable efficient sourcing, cost control, and collaboration while balancing the flexibility needed in a part-time capacity.

Can a part time buyer work remotely?

Part time buyers can often work remotely, especially in roles that involve research, vendor communication, and order management. However, some positions may require on-site presence for negotiations, inspections, or meetings, depending on the company's policies and industry standards.

How much does a part time buyer get paid?

Part-time buyers typically earn between $15 and $25 per hour, depending on experience, industry, and location. Salaries may also include benefits such as flexible schedules or remote work options, and some roles require familiarity with inventory management software.

How to get hired as a part time buyer?

To get hired as a part-time buyer, candidates should have strong analytical skills, knowledge of inventory management, and familiarity with retail or supply chain software. Relevant experience in purchasing, negotiation skills, and a high school diploma or higher are often required. Networking and applying through company websites or job boards can also improve chances of securing a position.

Is being a part time buyer a stressful job?

Part time buyers are responsible for selecting and purchasing products within budget and time constraints, often working under deadlines and market fluctuations. The job can be stressful during busy seasons or when managing multiple suppliers, but workload and stress levels vary depending on the company and industry. Strong organizational skills and industry knowledge can help manage stress effectively.

About Us
Join a team that makes a difference for local families and the environment! At Kid to Kid, we help parents buy and sell high-quality, gently used kids' clothes, toys, and gear. We are a fast-paced, fun, and community-focused resale shop looking for energetic team members.
Right now, we are specifically looking for sharp, detail-oriented individuals to join our Buying and Presorting team—the heart of our daily "treasure hunt"!
Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • The Absolute Best Retail Hours: No late nights or crack-of-dawn shifts! Our standard hours are 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
  • Short Sunday Shifts: We are only open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays, giving you your morning and evening back!
  • Flexible Scheduling: We offer flexible part-time shifts that work around school, family, or other commitments.
  • Awesome Employee Discount: Enjoy significant discounts on top-brand kids' clothes, shoes, toys, and equipment.
Who Makes a Great Fit for Our Team?
While we train the right people, we find that the individuals who find the most success (and fun!) in our Presorter and Buyer roles usually include:
  • Thrift & Resale Pros: Experienced inventory associates from high-volume environments (like Goodwill or local thrift shops) who excel at fast-paced sorting and quality control.
  • Brand-Savvy Parents & Caregivers: Moms, dads, or caretakers who already know children's brands, styles, and what clothing items are worth just by looking at them.
  • Retail Veterans: People with prior retail experience who have a sharp eye for current fashion trends, apparel conditions, and value.
What You'll Do
  • Presorting & Buying: Evaluate incoming items brought in by customers. Check for quality, safety, and condition, and use our software to price the best items.
  • Customer Interaction: Greet local parents, explain our buying process, and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Merchandising: Keep the sales floor organized, styled, and beautifully stocked with the fresh items you just bought.
  • Cash Wrap: Ring up purchases accurately and efficiently when needed.
What We Are Looking For
  • A positive, high-energy attitude and a passion for community and sustainability.
  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong decision-making skills (you will be deciding what inventory the store purchases!).
  • Reliability, teamwork, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to stand, move around, and lift up to 25-30 lbs during a shift.
Schedule
  • Part-time shifts available within our operating hours.
  • Weekend availability (including our short Sunday shift) is highly preferred.
