What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Business Instructor, and why are they important?

A Part Time Business Instructor typically requires expertise in business concepts, a relevant degree (often a master's or higher), and teaching experience. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) like Canvas or Blackboard, as well as presentation software such as PowerPoint, is commonly expected. Strong communication, adaptability, and the ability to engage and motivate students are standout soft skills. These qualifications ensure effective instruction, student success, and adaptability to diverse learning environments.

What types of courses and topics might a Part Time Business Instructor typically teach, and how much flexibility is there in curriculum planning?

As a Part Time Business Instructor, you may be responsible for teaching a range of foundational and specialized business courses, such as Introduction to Business, Marketing, Management, or Entrepreneurship. The exact topics can vary depending on the needs of the institution and student demand. Many institutions provide a standard curriculum, but part-time instructors often have the flexibility to incorporate real-world examples, case studies, and interactive activities to enhance student engagement. Collaboration with other faculty members is common, especially in aligning course objectives and assessments. This role offers a chance to bring your industry experience into the classroom while also developing your own teaching style.

What are part time business instructors?

Part time business instructors are educators who teach business-related courses on a part-time basis, often at colleges, universities, or community education programs. They typically have professional experience in business and may hold relevant degrees such as an MBA. These instructors are responsible for planning lessons, delivering lectures, grading assignments, and supporting students, but they usually have a reduced teaching load compared to full-time faculty. Part time business instructors may work in the evenings or weekends to accommodate students' schedules. Their flexible roles allow them to balance teaching with other professional or personal commitments.

Job description

Math Instructor/Tutor
Who we are:
Across the world, Mathnasium Learning Centers are committed to teaching children math so that they understand it, master it, and love it. Our curriculum is built upon the Mathnasium Method™- the result of decades of hands-on instruction and development.
Why Work with Us:
At Mathnasium of Davis County, we're passionate about both our students and our employees!
We set ourselves apart by providing Instructors with:
  • A rewarding opportunity to transform the lives of K-12th grade students
  • Consistent but flexible part-time hours after school and on weekends
  • A fun, supportive, and encouraging work culture
  • Opportunities for advancement
  • Continuous training on effective teaching methodologies

If you are driven, motivated, and eager to make a difference, we would love to meet you!
Job Responsibilities
  • Actively encourage, motivate, and engage with students during the instructional session
  • Work collaboratively with team members to deliver individualized instruction in a group setting
  • Correct student work and provide positive, constructive feedback
  • Manage student behavior to create a positive environment that optimizes learning
  • Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning and teaching practice.
  • Assist in non-teaching tasks, which may include cleaning, administrative assistance, or other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Passion for math and working with students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Eagerness to learn and be trained
  • Exceptional math competency through at least Algebra I
  • Ability to balance various ongoing tasks

All applicants will be required to take a math literacy test to demonstrate math proficiency, provide work authorization, and pass a background check.
Additional Info
  • This post is for positions in any of our Davis County locations- Layton, Farmington, and Bountiful. If we schedule a Literacy Test with you we will ask you which center you prefer to work out of.
  • During the summer our center is open Monday-Friday 10 am-2 pm and Tuesday-Thursday 5-7 pm.
  • Scheduling is flexible, and we are more than happy to work with school and other work schedules.
  • Instructors are paid from $11-$15 depending on experience, education, and math skills. There are opportunities for advancement into other positions- e.g., Lead Instructor.

Compensation: $11.00 - $14.00 per hour
Mathnasium locations are independently owned and operated by franchisees of Mathnasium Center Licensing, LLC ("Mathnasium"). Franchisees are independent business people and not employed by Mathnasium. Thus, each franchisee and each franchisee center is unique and the franchisee is alone responsible for all employment matters in their center. If you are hired to work at a center, the franchisee will be your employer, not Mathnasium.
