Job description
An APA bus driver will work for a morning and afternoon shift. Shifts are from 6:00 - 8:30 am and 2:00-4:30 pm. Bus drivers may drive students to and from school, as well as school sponsored events.
Duties/Responsibilities:Transport children and other passengers to and from school
Obey all traffic laws to ensure students arrive to their destination safely
Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times
Ensure the safety of all students when entering and leaving the bus
Assist students with getting on and off the bus as needed
Engage with students as they enter and exit the bus
Must possess emotional maturity
Willingness to cooperate with the alms of the program
Respect for children and adults
Flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene
Physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities
Must have good verbal communication skills and visual ability to observe children
Ability to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergency situations
Proven work experience as a School Bus Driver or similar role
Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years
Two or more years of experience working with children preferred
Ability to carry out assigned route on time
Must have a Commercial Driver’s License - must possess a valid Class B and Passenger and School Bus endorsements
Must be at least 18 years of age or older
Must be able to comply with a background check as required by the Agency or IDCFS
Risk of exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues
Risk involved with travel on main highways, side streets and rural roads during the transportation of children
Risk of exposure to communicable diseases
Must be able to lift 55 pounds, many times a day
Must be able to climb into the bus, walk, bend, kneel and squat frequently
The qualifications listed above are guidelines for selection purposes; alternative qualifications may be substituted if sufficient to perform the duties
Salary and Schedule:starting at $26.00 per hour
Shifts are from 6:00 - 8:30 am and 2:00-4:30 pm Monday through Friday
Up to 25 hours per week
