Role Description
Arcadis Canada is seeking a part-time, as-needed UAV/UAS Pilot and GIS/Geomatics Technician to join our Arcadis Construction Services Team in Ontario. The successful incumbent will be responsible for providing professional leadership in their discipline, establishing and consolidating relationships with clients, managing the delivery of projects or specialized components of projects, supporting the development of Arcadis capability, and building and maintaining a professional reputation. We offer a flexible hybrid work model with a balance between remote and in-office work and site visits as required.
This role will sit within the Global Resilience Business Area. The Resilience Business Area works to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we're feeling the effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and loss of biodiversity. The rate at which we're seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires is becoming more frequent. We are here to protect our natural environment and water resources while powering our world for future generations.
Role Accountabilities
The UAV/UAS Pilot and GIS/Geomatics Technician will lead the delivery of projects, ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management, and strong communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues. This role will engage with clients and key stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of project objectives and establish protocols for working together.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior client personnel to identify and resolve issues, uncover business opportunities, influence decision-making, and guide clients through technical decisions by recommending solutions that meet or exceed project objectives and expectations.
- Build collaborative working relationships with Arcadis teams, technical disciplines, offices, and external organizations to foster cooperation, share resources and technical knowledge, and identify cross-sell and trade-up opportunities.
- Support business development activities by contributing technical expertise to proposals and bids, helping to produce high-quality, competitive submissions.
- Monitor project scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring project teams remain informed through regular status updates and meetings while maintaining effective project delivery and client satisfaction.
- Stay current with industry trends, technical advancements, and legislative developments, while actively supporting Arcadis' professional profile through participation in conferences, publications, and technical committees.
- Coach, mentor, and supervise survey professionals, Task Managers, and Survey Technicians, assigning project work, monitoring progress against milestones, and supporting the ongoing development of Arcadis' talent pool.
- Travel to construction project sites throughout Ontario, working closely with Site Superintendents and Project Managers to support project execution and resolve surveying and geomatics-related challenges.
- Conduct and oversee field data collection activities, including establishing horizontal and vertical controls, operating UAVs, processing survey and geospatial data, preparing drawings and deliverables, troubleshooting field issues, and performing final QA/QC reviews of surveys and databases prior to client delivery.
This role will supervise staff, providing leadership, mentorship, and training as needed. Advanced analytical skills and the ability to research, gather, and interpret data for reporting purposes are required. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, project management skills, and the ability to build and maintain client relationships at a senior level.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-Secondary Diploma required; higher education preferred.
- 5 or more years' relevant experience.
- Must have a valid Driver's License.
- UAV Advanced Pilot License for Ontario.
Preference will be given to candidates who are Licensed Land Surveyors, with experience using Total Station with base and rover, and who have proficiency with geospatial data management tools (AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS Pro) preferred.
