The Job
Carteret County Government is seeking a Part-time Building Monitor to join the Senior Center team. Do you enjoy working with the senior population? Do you need extra income? The Location
Office location is at the Leon Mann Jr. Enrichment Center in Morehead City, NC.
The Details
$16.05 per hour - 19 hours or less per week. Must be able to work evenings & weekends.
REQUIRED - Must complete pre-employment screenings including criminal background check, fingerprint background, drug test, motor vehicle report & education screening (if applicable). Offers of employment are conditional on acceptable results.

The Job Description
General Statement of Duties
Performs human support work ensuring the security of department facilities, enforcing established rules and regulations, and conducting surveillance of buildings, grounds and activities. The employee is responsible for locking/unlocking, monitoring usage and performing various maintenance duties at assigned department facilities.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class ensures the security of assigned facility; enforces policies and procedures; maintains the cleanliness of the facility and sets up the facility as needed for customers who have secured the facility for an event. Work is performed under the supervision of the assigned supervisor and is evaluated through observation, periodic conferences and quality of work performed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Tasks
• An employee in this class is responsible for keeping the facility safe by performing routine safety checks.
• Work involves removing trash and providing maintenance as needed.
• Employee is required to enforce rules and regulations set forth by the Department governing the conduct in the building and on the surrounding grounds.
• Work involves setting-up and taking down tables, chairs, television, and other equipment as needed by customers; securing the facility and grounds after an event; completing a Facility Checklist form; and, maintaining storage areas and a record of items stored.

• Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
• Ability to be courteous and tactful in dealing with the public.
Physical Requirements
• Work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
• Work regularly requires walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, tasting or smelling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting.
• Work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision,
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
• Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts and observing general surroundings and activities.
• Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to blood-borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
• Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and minimal experience in maintenance or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license upon hire.
Position requires some evening and weekend work.
