What is a part time box truck driver?

A Part Time Box Truck Driver is a professional who operates a box truck—typically a medium-sized, enclosed vehicle—to transport goods, equipment, or materials on a part-time basis. Duties often include loading and unloading cargo, ensuring safe and timely deliveries, and following all traffic and safety regulations. Part time roles provide flexibility and are common in industries such as retail, logistics, and moving services. Drivers may work set shifts or on-call, depending on the employer’s needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time box truck driver?

To thrive as a Part Time Box Truck Driver, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL or appropriate state license), a clean driving record, and basic knowledge of vehicle safety and maintenance. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic loading/unloading equipment is common in this role. Reliability, good time management, and strong customer service skills help drivers stand out when interacting with clients and meeting delivery schedules. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods while maintaining positive customer relationships.

What are the typical work schedules and route expectations for a part time box truck driver?

Part-time box truck drivers often work flexible or variable shifts, which may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends depending on the employer’s delivery needs. It's common to load and unload cargo manually, and drivers must adhere to strict safety and delivery timelines. Communication with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and occasionally customers is a regular part of the job, requiring reliability and good organizational skills.

In this role, you'll help support individuals returning to the community after incarceration by providing transportation, conducting monitoring visits, and helping ensure compliance with program requirements.

If you enjoy working independently, managing your own day, and making a positive impact in your community, we'd like to hear from you.

This Position Is Different Than Most Jobs

Before applying, it's important to understand how this position works:

There is no office to report to each day.
Your work takes place throughout your assigned service area rather than from a central office.

You will use your own reliable vehicle.

Your schedule varies.
This is not a traditional Monday-Friday, 8-to-5 position. Assignments are based on client needs and may occur during weekdays, with occasional evenings and weekends. Most employees average 10–20 hours per week, though hours vary.

If you're looking for predictable daily shifts in one location, this probably isn't the right fit. If you're looking for flexibility and independence, it may be exactly what you're looking for.

  • Complete electronic reports and monitoring documentation
  • Perform residence safety and security checks
  • Report violations and concerns to supervisors and state partners
  • Provide appropriate guidance regarding daily living and independent living skills
  • Communicate professionally with clients while maintaining clear professional boundaries

Every day is different, and no two assignments are exactly alike.

We're Looking For Someone Who Is

  • Dependable and self-motivated
  • Comfortable working independently without direct supervision
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Professional, calm, and confident when working with diverse populations
  • Able to make sound decisions and document information accurately
  • Comfortable using smartphone apps for scheduling, reporting, and timekeeping

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Good driving record
  • Reliable personal vehicle
  • Proof of automobile insurance
  • Smartphone with the ability to use scheduling and reporting applications
  • Ability to travel frequently throughout your assigned service area
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background screening

Preferred

Education or experience in:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Corrections
  • Human or Social Services
  • Psychology or Sociology
  • Behavioral Health
  • Mental Health
  • Security or Law Enforcement

Experience working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system or other human service populations is strongly preferred.

Benefits

Part-time employees are eligible for:

  • $20.00/hour starting wage
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Cell phone reimbursement
  • 403(b) Retirement Plan
  • Pension participation
