Job description

SUMMARY

The part-time Nurse-LPN provides nursing support for youth residing in the Safety Harbor program by coordinating medical, dental, vision, and behavioral health services and maintains accurate health records.
The part-time Nurse-LPN is directly responsible to the Safety Harbor Program Director.
This position is classified as non-exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Develops schedules and provides training and education for youth and staff on health and medical topics (CPR, First Aid, OSHA, nutrition, and other health or medical related areas as assigned by supervisor).
  2. Arranges and/or coordinates services for medical, dental, vision and other youth needs, including regularly scheduled and emergency services.  
  3. Completes youth assessments and chart audits on an initial and ongoing basis. This includes physical, dental, vision, hearing and other areas as appropriate.
  4. Obtain initial medication consents and maintain current medication consents.

SECONDARY (BACK-UP) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Consults with Youth Ranches staff on areas relating to youth’s medical needs and issues which includes consultation, training and monitoring of protocols for various treatments prescribed by the doctor as well as follow up on first aid.
  2. Sets up and maintains clinic records and files relating to the clinic and medical services which includes administrative as well as youth files and records. Maintains the clinic and/or first aid on campus.  Ensures that it is neat and clean and that supplies, and equipment are adequate and inventoried regularly.
  3. Assists Business Manager or Program Bookkeeper with Medicaid and other third-party insurance eligibility, claims or billing matters. Maintains good public relations with the medical community and provides liaison between Youth Ranches and doctors, dentists, orthodontists, emergency rooms, pharmacies, and other medical providers.
  4. Monitors the administration of prescription and over the counter medication by cottage parents, youth care assistants, program leaders or other staff responsible for direct care of youth.  This includes monitoring medication logs and following up on prescribed treatments for youth in care, giving regular input to supervisors concerning direct care staff that do not follow protocol or prescribed treatment for youth in their care.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The person filling this position must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Florida.  Previous experience in the nursing field, especially with youth is preferred.

  1. Must possess a sound knowledge of medical procedures.
  2. Must have the ability to make proper judgments in times of crises.
  3. Must have the ability to maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports.
  4. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive health information.
  5. Must have knowledge of medical equipment and its use.
  6. Must present an example of good health and hygienic practices.
  7. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
  8. Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as percentages, proportions, and basic measurements, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  9. Must have the ability to identify problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts,  draw valid conclusions, interpret a variety of instructions, and effectively manage situations involving multiple variables.
  10. Must have a valid Florida Driver License and be able to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.
Part Time - 20 hours a Week
Pay - $22.00 an hour
