Position Summary
Located 45 minutes from the Nation's Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is a two-time Aspen Award-winning institution (top 15% of Community Colleges) with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. This is an applicant pool for future temporary positions as a Bookstore Clerk on the La Plata campus. This applicant pool will be accessed by the hiring manager when there is a hiring need.
College of Southern Maryland conducts background checks in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the College's staff and students. The final candidate for this position will be subject to the following background checks: Criminal History Check and Sex Offender Registry Check.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of a bookstore clerk are the following:
  • Provide excellent customer service, answer telephones, and perform general clerical and housekeeping duties.
  • Accurately perform transactions on the Point of Sale cash register.
  • Assist in the shipping and receiving of textbooks and general merchandise from vendors and other CSM College Stores.
  • Load and unload shipments. Boxes of books may weigh as much as 55 lbs.
  • Stock shelves.
  • Assist with the pricing of stock.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Training
  • Retail sales experience preferred.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Experience operating a Point of Sale cash register.
  • Ability to lift 50-70 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours during textbook deliveries, book rush, and textbook buyback periods
