Job description

Assistant Shop Lead (Part-Time) – Bike Shop LA | West Hollywood

Bike Shop LA is a fast-paced, community-focused shop in West Hollywood seeking an experienced Assistant Shop Lead to join our team. This is a customer-facing role for someone who brings strong mechanical ability along with an outgoing, engaging personality. The ideal candidate is just as comfortable talking with customers and guests as they are working on a bike. This is a part-time position (15–20 hrs/week) with the opportunity to expand hours through tour guiding with our sister company, Bikes and Hikes LA.

What You'll Do

  • Help customers find the right bike, gear, or service — especially eBikes — with expert, friendly guidance
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and explain repair options clearly and confidently
  • Recommend parts and upgrades in a way that builds trust and enhances the customer experience
  • Perform tune-ups, repairs, and assemblies on a wide range of bikes
  • Maintain a fleet of rental and tour bikes, ensuring every bike is safe, clean, and ride-ready
  • Keep the shop and workbench organized and running efficiently
  • Assist with inventory management and restocking
  • Support rentals, tours, and off-site fleet maintenance, including bike deliveries or pickups

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of hands-on bike repair experience (shop or mobile mechanic preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of drivetrains, brakes, wheels, and suspension systems
  • Outgoing, personable, and confident communicator - someone who enjoys engaging with both customers and tour guests
  • Ability to create a positive, welcoming experience in both a retail and tour environment
  • Comfortable guiding customers toward the right purchase or service without high-pressure tactics
  • Familiarity with eBikes (repair experience is a plus)
  • Dependable, punctual, and comfortable in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
  • Comfortable working on both modern and vintage bikes
  • Flexible weekend availability — our busiest days run Friday through Sunday
  • Comfortable appearing in or contributing to shop and tour social media content
  • Valid California driver's license required for deliveries and off-site fleet support

What We Offer

  • Starting pay: $21–$25/hr depending on experience, plus tips
  • Staff discounts on bikes, parts, and gear
  • A supportive, inclusive team that takes bikes seriously and has fun doing it

To Apply
Send your resume — or a quick summary of your experience — along with a short note about your experience working with bikes customers.
