Company Description

Position Overview:
The Near North Montessori (NNM) School Private Piano Music Lesson Instructor provides students of all ages an inspiring and well-balanced music education. This position supervises assigned students and maintains a positive learning environment, both in one-on-one and small group lessons. Adapts instruction to meet the individual learning needs of all students resulting in an increased probability of advancing their achievement. Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.

Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Create an inspirational environment for learning music
  • Provide weekly instruction for students, both one-on-one lessons and group lessons, for our 18-week Fall and our 18-week Spring semesters. Summer term work will also be available, but not required
  • Prepare students for year-end recitals, by choosing pieces appropriate to their level (that are both challenging and enjoyable) and helping them prepare well in advance
  • Ensure that students are learning the fundamentals of music
  • Create and document thoughtful lesson plans
  • Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school
  • Assist as needed during lessons in the overall execution of a program (assisting in rehearsals, basic maintenance in school musical equipment, etc.)
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in music, (Preferably Music Education, with early childhood experience)
  • 2+ years’ experience performing professionally and/or teaching music, preferably to elementary-aged children, both individually and in small groups
  • Must have an advanced understanding of music theory and technique relevant to primary instrument
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, with children and adults
  • Demonstrated understanding of music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts effectively to students at all levels
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to keep students on task in a lesson
  • Advanced understanding of a child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
  • Very strong customer relations skills
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times

Additional Information

Pay for this position is on a per lesson basis. Rates are listed below:

  • $32.00 per 30-minute private lesson.
  • $62.72 per 60-minute private lesson.
  • $78.75 per hour for small group or band lessons.
  • $36.00 per hour for other non-lesson time worked including demos, tryouts, meetings, field trips attended, prep work, and other work assigned by and performed for the school.
