Job description

Monmouth University is seeking a Medical Director (part time) in our Physician Assistant Program which is part of the School of Science and Health Studies.
This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Program Oversight and Accreditation (ARC-PA Standards B1, B2, B7)
  • Provide active participation in programmatic continuous self-assessment and improvement, as required by ARC-PA.
  • Be available for and participate in ARC-PA site visits and accreditation activities.
  • Assist the Program Director in ensuring the program maintains compliance with ARC-PA Standards (6th edition).
    • Provide input into student handbook policies and procedures, including those related to infection control, student safety, and clinical education.

2. Curriculum and Instruction (ARC-PA Standards B2, B4, B8)
  • Assist in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation to ensure medical accuracy, relevance, and alignment with current clinical practice standards.
  • Deliver lectures, case-based teaching, and simulation education as appropriate.
  • Support the program in incorporation of:
    • Patient safety principles
    • Interprofessional collaboration
    • Ethical and professional practice

3. Clinical Education Support (ARC-PA Standards B3, B6)
  • Assist the program with development of new clinical sites through connections in New Jersey communities and professional networks.
  • Advise on clinical curriculum design, including rotation objectives and competency expectations.
  • Support evaluation of clinical preceptors and learning environments.
  • Serve as a role model for professionalism and clinical excellence.

4. Student Assessment and Outcomes (ARC-PA Standards B4, C1)
  • Contribute to development and review of student evaluation methods to ensure validity, reliability, and alignment with competencies.
  • Participate in review of student performance and progression, as requested by the Program Director.
  • Provide expertise in evaluating clinical readiness and professional behaviors.

5. Program Administration and Collaboration (ARC-PA Standards B1, B2)
  • Meet regularly with the Program Director to discuss:
    • Program development
    • Clinical and professional issues
    • Student performance and concerns
  • Attend:
    • Program meetings
    • Faculty accreditation retreats
    • Student White Coat Ceremony and Awards Ceremony
  • Provide consultation on medical and professional issues affecting PA education and practice.
  • Fulfill an advisory role in maintaining program rigor, integrity, and relevance.

6. Additional Duties
  • Serves as a key academic leader who reports to the Program Director and provides guidance on all aspects of PA education, including curriculum quality, clinical standards, and student performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support program success and accreditation compliance.

7. Time Commitment
  • Engagement is regular and ongoing, with scheduled participation in meetings, curriculum activities, and program assessment.

  • Doctoral Degree in Medicine
  • Excellent Interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately
