JOB DESCRIPTION

ORGANIZATION: City of Lebanon LOCATION: Senior Center

DEPARTMENT: LINX Transit Program DATE: January 2024

JOB TITLE: LINX Transit Driver JOB STATUS: Part-Time

SALARY GRADE: AFSCME 3 FLSA Exempt: No


PURPOSE OF POSITION: Operate and maintain City bus to provide transit services for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities and the general public within the City and the general surrounding area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below include, but are not limited to, the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. Any of the following duties may be performed. All employees are expected to maintain job proficiency by completing relevant position specific training, and pursuing available and approved professional development opportunities; maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner; maintain regular job attendance and adherence to working hours; follow all City policies; follow all established safety rules and procedures.

1. Review daily bus route/manifest and works with dispatcher regarding any changes and/or updates to the schedule. Maintain communication with the dispatcher at all times.

2. Demonstrate a courteous customer service attitude to the public and riders; provide assistance as necessary. Responsible for facilitating passenger safety through proper rider guidelines and protocols; respond to emergency situations and apply training, as needed.

3. Operate wheelchair lift to assist wheelchair-bound passengers in boarding and disembarking from bus. Assist riders with mobility devices, bags, packages and other items, as needed.

4. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any issues to supervisor.

5. Maintain buses, including fueling and cleaning; assures supervisor is aware of routine service and repair needs. May perform minor maintenance.

6. Maintain an accurate accounting of daily passengers on bus manifests, collect fares and reconciles at the end of each shift, with dispatcher.

7. Comply with all federal, state and local transit laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

8. Perform “Safety Sensitive” duties, per Federal Transit Administration (FTA) guidelines. Safety sensitive employees must participate and remain in compliance with the FTA Drug and Alcohol testing program, including pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident testing.

9. Report any bus or passenger issues, concerns or accidents to supervisor without delay.

10. Develop and sustain positive, cooperative, team oriented working relationships with supervisor, coworkers and public.

11. Perform general office work as directed.

12. Operate a motor vehicle safely and legally.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

1. Equivalent of high school diploma.

2. Six or more months of experience as a bus or transit driver or experience directly related to this position which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.

Licenses & Certificates:

1. Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

2. CPR/First Aid card within first six months.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Class B CDL is preferred.

2. Ability to obtain Medical Examiners Certificate Card within two (2) weeks of hire.

3. Completion of specialized courses in defensive driving and passenger assistance; obtained within first six months is desirable.

4. Previous experience in providing services to seniors and persons with disabilities is desirable.

1. Proper operation of passenger bus, passenger assistance, first aid and defensive driving techniques, and routine operator maintenance methods.

1. Implementing work methods and procedures which promote a safe working environment and ensuring proper staff training in work safety.

2. Evaluating work priorities, procedures, and processes to determine their effectiveness and efficiency.

5. Providing outstanding customer satisfaction (internally and externally).

WORKING CONDITIONS: Approximately 80% of the work period involves operation of a bus with exposure to traffic hazards and potential distractions of passengers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision is not a typical function assigned to this position. This position may provide training and orientation to volunteers and newly assigned personnel on department policies and practices.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Senior Center and Transit Program Director.


This is a part-time position working approx. 20 hours a week. Shift schedule is determined by department needs and is subject to change.
