ASL Medical Video Remote Interpreter (VRI)
Summary: The ASL Medical Video Remote Interpreter (VRI) will cover a wide range of shifts to serve Deaf and hard-of-hearing community and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of medical settings via video.
AMN Healthcare Language Services is an industry-leading language interpreting provider that uses a technology-driven solution to bridge the communication gaps between patients and medical professionals facilitating the equity and continuance of care for all.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide effective video remote interpreting services for consumers
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined by AMN Healthcare Language Services
  • Exhibit professional behavior at all times including punctuality and preparedness for shifts, respectful and collaborative interaction with colleagues and supervisors, and timely and accurate record keeping
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies and best practices
  • Participate in ongoing training, quality assurance and call monitoring programs
Required Experience:
  • National certification recognized by RID (this is a firm requirement)
  • Strong aptitude and investment in customer service
  • At least 5 years of community interpreting experience in medical settings
  • Extensive working knowledge of the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
  • ASL/English fluency; bilingual/bi-cultural competency
  • Respect for and understanding of Deaf culture and community
  • Familiarity with state laws and the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Continued employment requires interpreters to provide a minimum of 20 hrs. of industry focused or interpreting continued education per year

Preferred:
  • Video interpreting experience (recent)
  • Medical interpreting experience (recent)
  • Working knowledge and experience working with Certified Deaf Interpreters
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended durations (up to 8 hours)
  • Ability to use an on-ear headset (both ears) for duration of work shift
  • Ability to use a web camera to interact with patients and providers in medical scenarios.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
  • Required to walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop; talk and hear
Home Office Requirements:
  • Private Room with full length (floor to ceiling) walls
  • Door that can be closed and locked for privacy.
  • Hardwired high speed Internet connection
  • This job cannot be performed from a public setting, travel trailer, or any space other than the employee’s company-approved private office
