POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Quality Control Inspector

REPORTS TO: Quality Control Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

FT / PT STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Office, Shipyard(s) & Customer Facilities

SUMMARY

Conduct inspections and tests, documenting results and determining if quality of work meets standards and requirements IAW Quality Management System (QMS).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct inspections and tests, documenting results required by inspection/testing instructions, test memoranda, work instructions, standard practices, and drawing IAW with company QMS.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to ensure correct materials, proper application and installation procedures are utilized during production process IAW with company QMS.
  • Evaluate results from tests and inspections to determine acceptability with the authority to accept, reject or rework defective processes as per procedures IAW with company QMS.
  • Research contract/shipbuilding specifications, regulatory requirements, and technical manuals to assure that the work and inspections are conducted IAW the contract, specification, and standard items.
  • Develop and Maintain Test and Inspection Plan (TIP) for all assigned jobs
  • Ensure all assigned equipment is maintained in good working order with within all calibration certification intervals
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • None

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES

  • Skilled in blueprint reading, precision instrument utilization, technical manual interpretation, supervision, and written communication required
  • Familiarity with Navy and Society for Protective Coatings standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent record keeping and documentation skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years experience in the Maritime Industry
  • Formal or informal on-the-job training in the Maritime industry
  • Industry relevant Certifications preferred, such as SSPC-QCS, NBPI or NACE
  • OSHA 10 (Company May Provide)

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, heights, confined spaces, precarious places, proximity to other employees.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50+ pounds (50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs frequently, 10 lbs constantly)
  • Lifting includes from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, waist to overhead
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders
  • Occasional periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
