Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The Animal Services Department is a Division of the Bolivar Police Department. This department exists to support the Bolivar Police with pound operations and to safeguard the citizens of Bolivar.
The Animal Servies Technician will assist the Animal Servies Supervisor as needed with assigned pound duties. Work schedules and daily duties are subject to change as the needs of the pound change.
Pound operations are located separately from the police department at 2002 E Division St. Bolivar.
Uniform requirements are blue jeans and black tennis shoes; T-Shirts will be provided.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of pound and assist the supervisor as needed.
  • Maintain pound equipment and tools.
  • Release animals to their owners.
  • Collect money from animal releases and registrations.
  • Assist with the intake of animals including taking photos, vaccinating, checking for microchips, and logging the animals into the Pound.
  • Assist the supervisor with veterinarian appointments, vaccinating animals, and euthanizing sick, injured, and unclaimed animals.
  • Administer medicine prescribed by the Vet for animals at the Pound.
  • Answer the phones at the pound and provide accurate information to the public regarding animal control issues and pound protocol.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of vaccines and order.
  • Monitor sick and injured animals and report their condition to the Vet.
  • Direct incoming animals to the appropriate pens and cages.
  • Keep all animals tagged for identification.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of animals and services rendered at the Pound.
  • Assist citizens with animal adoptions.
  • Participate in community events and educate the public about animal services ordinances and processes.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned, within the scope of the duties and responsibilities outlined in the employeesโ€™ signed job description.

  • Utilize general office equipment such as computers, 10-key, fax machines, copiers, e-mail and all similar office technology on a regular basis.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience working with animals is preferred.
  • Must like working around animals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of animal care procedures and protocols.
  • Familiar with municipal government operations and with City ordinances and proceedings.
  • The ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in typing, word processing, and related clerical skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • The ability to meet and deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • The ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail amidst a multitask, frequently changing, priority driven environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Constant sitting, walking or standing.
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, and climb.
  • The ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Hold and grip objects.
  • Occasional periods of sitting in a vehicle.
  • Acceptable Physical Capacity Profile test results are required.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
  • Have a valid Missouri Driverโ€™s License and must remain insurable under the Cityโ€™s liability insurance policy.
