Job description

About Norbert Health

Norbert Health builds autonomous robotic care intelligence for senior living and clinical floor settings. Our robot captures physiological vitals, behavioral signals, and conversational data to support clinical decision-making in skilled nursing facilities.

The Role

We are looking for a hands-on product research intern to conduct field research at an active SNF deployment site and help validate new facility-facing use cases for our robot platform. This is not a desk research role. You will be on the floor observing workflows, interviewing staff, and collecting both qualitative and quantitative data to inform product direction and surface market opportunities.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct field studies at our SNF deployment site, including workflow observation, patient interviews, and staff interviews.
  • Assess documentation burden and compliance workflows across clinical assessments used in long-term care.
  • Identify opportunities where robotic monitoring can reduce manual staff workload.
  • Design and run validation protocols comparing robot-generated data to existing clinical processes.
  • Research how patients and nurses interact with the robot during live visits and surface insights for the team.
  • Synthesize findings into actionable product recommendations.

What We Are Looking For

  • Master's or PhD candidate (or recent graduate) in a research-heavy field, for example public health, health informatics, anthropology, behavioral or cognitive science, psychology, human factors, or related. Healthcare exposure is a strong plus.
  • Genuinely excited about applying AI and robotics to healthcare. You want to be at a startup building something new, not observing from the sidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience applying core research methods (user interviews, workflow observation, surveys, qualitative and quantitative analysis) in a substantive project, such as a graduate thesis, lab study, applied internship, or industry engagement.
  • Curious about AI and emerging technology. You do not need to be technical, but you should be eager to learn how AI systems work in clinical settings.
  • Self-directed and ready to jump in. Small team, fast pace.
  • In-office, based in Brooklyn.

Nice to Have

  • Prior product or market research experience, in industry or applied settings.
  • Exposure to product development cycles or early-stage startup environments.
  • Familiarity with validated clinical assessment instruments (for example MDS, CMAI, PHQ-9, GAD-7) or behavioral observation methods.
  • CNA, LPN, or clinical rotation experience in geriatrics or long-term care.
  • Exposure to health tech, digital health, or AI-enabled clinical tools.
  • Familiarity with SNF workflows, clinical assessments, or long-term care settings.

Why You'll Want to Be Here

Norbert is a small team of experts in machine learning, medical devices, and human-robot interaction. We are building one of the first autonomous clinical robots in senior care. Not a concept. Not a prototype. Our robot meets real seniors on a real clinical floor every day.

You will learn what it takes to put AI and robotics into the hands of nurses and patients. You will work with people who have built and shipped at the frontier of healthcare and AI. We are based at New Lab in Brooklyn, one of the most exciting places to work in the city.

Details

  • Location: New Lab, Brooklyn. On working days, you are in-office or on-site at our deployment facility. This role is built around being present.
  • Fieldwork: Travel to our SNF deployment facility in Brooklyn for on-site research.
  • Commitment: Part-time, 2-3 days per week
  • Duration: 3-6 months
  • Compensation: $25-35/hr depending on experience
  • Reports to: Anna Oh, Head of Product & Design
Employment Type: PART_TIME
