Description
Iowa Western Community College's Continuing Education department is seeking a qualified Computer Information Instructor to teach non-credit courses to adult and community learners in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and introductory Artificial Intelligence tools and concepts. This position is ideal for a candidate who enjoys helping adult learners - including working professionals, career-changers, and small business owners - build practical, job-ready computer skills in a friendly, hands-on classroom environment.
Course offerings are typically short-format (single sessions to multi-week series), scheduled in the evenings or during the day depending on enrollment demand, and delivered at the Council Bluffs campus and/or IWCC centers.
Job Duties
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction in Microsoft Excel (basic through intermediate/advanced functions, formulas, and data tools), Microsoft Word, and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Develop and teach introductory courses on Artificial Intelligence tools and practical applications for workplace productivity
  • Design course materials, handouts, and hands-on practice exercises appropriate for adult learners of varying skill levels
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and skill-building
  • Adapt instructional pace and approach to accommodate a range of technical proficiency, from beginner to advanced
  • Evaluate participant progress and gather feedback to continuously improve course content
  • Maintain accurate attendance and course completion records in accordance with department procedures
  • Communicate regularly with the Continuing Education Coordinator regarding course scheduling, enrollment, and materials needs
  • Stay current on updates to Microsoft Office applications and emerging AI tools relevant to course content
  • Exhibit a positive and professional demeanor with all members of the college and community, contributing to a productive and growth-oriented work environment

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with AI tools and their practical business or productivity applications
  • Prior experience teaching, training, or presenting to adult audiences (classroom, corporate training, or workshop setting)
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts in clear, accessible terms
  • Ability to work with learners of varying technical skill levels with patience and adaptability
  • Ability to pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification or equivalent
  • Experience developing curriculum or training materials
  • Background in adult education or corporate/professional training

Physical Demands
  • The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
