General Description of Position
Under the general supervision of the Dean or Associate Dean, the Adjunct Instructor, Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology is responsible for instructing students in various Diesel Ag Equipment courses (as needed), developing, and updating the program courses in a classroom/laboratory environment. This position is also responsible for the maintenance of the lab equipment, advising students, and working with the program and College committees. The Instructor reports to the Associate Dean and Dean of Transportation/Manufacturing. This is a part-time temporary position.
Essential Functions
Provide Student Instruction in Program Courses as Assigned Provide instruction to a diverse student population in the Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology program. Determine the appropriate material to be covered in the course(s) assigned to teach (subject to program chair and division dean approval).
Develop New Courses and Update Existing Courses Develop new courses and update existing courses as required to keep the Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology program current with industry standards and processes. New course development includes writing course objectives, developing syllabi, developing handouts and tests and researching text books for course use. Also the updating of existing courses to ensure that the course is current with industry standards is required.
Maintain and Upgrade Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology Classroom/ Laboratory Instructional Facilities and Equipment
Responsible for maintenance of all instructional facilities and equipment and to insure that it is maintained in a safe and proper working order for student use.
Complete and Maintain Program and Students Records
Responsible for maintaining permanent student records on courses taught, and following and enforcing college policies regarding attendance policy, grading policy, and student achievement. Assist with the completion of purchase orders when ordering program instructional supplies and equipment. Complete production orders on all production projects, and maintaining inventory records of all program equipment for the assigned laboratory areas.
Maintain Technical Competency in Teaching Area
Required to stay technically competent in all areas of teaching responsibilities by attending seminars, professional association meetings, conferences, educational workshops, and self-study.
Participate in College and Program Activities and Committees
Will attend, participate in and support all program activities (i.e. advisory committee meetings, open house, division meetings, etc.), and College activities and committees as requested.
Will Act as Student and Technical Advisor for the Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology Program
Will advise Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology program students on academic standing, support and explain College policies and procedures with students, and complete all records, forms, etc. as necessary for proper articulation and program operation.
Perform Other College and Program Duties as Assigned
Perform other College and program related duties as assigned. This will include, but is not limited to, substitute teaching as required, develop budgets, advise program chair and division dean as requested, support and promote the College and the Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology program, support student recruitment, assist in the security of all College and program materials and equipment, and assist in supervising student help.
Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors)
Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction. Professional Development Faculty should work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan of professional development and improvement.
Promote and support the College's diversity goals; promote/support Access, Fair Employment, EEO, Equity and Diversity programs.
Promote and support the College's organizational environment goals. Maximize operational efficiency by enhancing policies and procedures, staffing, and communication processes and practices. Enhance positive communication processes and practices, and maximize a positive and engaging organizational environment by encouraging input, reflective and transparent communication, and compassion and respect toward the views and ideas of others.
The instructor may have additional duties and responsibilities of supervising and coordinating the activities of the program and its faculty if assigned to be Program Chair or Program Lead. The primary role of the Program Chair/Lead is to ensure that through personal and faculty efforts, students are able to achieve the objectives of the program. The Program Chair/Lead reports to the Dean or Associate Dean of the Division.
Marginal Functions
1. Serve as a technical advisor from the Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology program for assisting other programs at the College.
2. Provide assistance to other College divisions/programs/ departments as requested to ensure College policies and procedures are followed.
3. Teach evening or off campus Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology classes for specific training requests.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Possess current knowledge and work experience in the Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology field. This will include the following: Electrical Systems and Components, Power Train Systems and Components, Engines and Engine Components, Fuel Systems and Components to include gasoline, LPG, and diesel fuel, and Hand Tools and Precision Measuring Instruments prevalent to farm equipment.
2. Ability and experience in: Diagnosis, Troubleshooting, and Repair of Electrical System Components, Power Trains Components, Engines and Engine Components, Fuel System Components and be proficient in the use of Hand/Power Tools and Precision Measuring Instruments.

3. Minimum of two years current work experience in the Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology field (related to the instructional assignment) and a working knowledge of other courses in the Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology field.
4. Be able to operate: Diagnostic and Repair Equipment used in troubleshooting/repair of Electrical Systems, Power Systems, Engines and Engine Components, Fuel Systems Problems/Failures and the use of Hand/Power Tools and Precision Measuring Instruments in repairing of Farm Equipment.
5. Be able to demonstrate all types of processes required of a Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology technician for the particular courses assigned to teach.
6. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication competencies necessary to conduct classroom and laboratory instruction in working with a diverse student population. able to use ELE instruction methods effectively. 7. Be able to maintain a classroom/lab environment that is conducive to learning including the ability to maintain proper classroom order.
8. Prepare tests and quizzes that are pertinent to the classroom delivered, laboratory experiences provided and present them on a regular basis. Evaluate and return tests, quizzes and other assigned work within a short period of time to keep students informed of their progress.
9. Ability to develop lab experiences that as closely as possible simulate real business and industry processes. Be able to evaluate the student's ability to perform the lab assignments as objectively as possible.
10. Be able to maintain student interest through the use of various types of teaching media and techniques.
11. Ability to organize and present course material in a logical and timely manner using effective communication skills.
12. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students and College staff in all types of working relationships.
13. Be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (one to three hours) when supervising lab work and during class times (one to three hours).
14. Be able to lift from floor to five feet high equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
15. Possess a working knowledge of the Globally HarmonizedHazard Communication Standard/ Hazard and Chemical Right-to-Know laws and regulations.
16. Knowledge and skill in using personal computers working with word processing and spreadsheets.
17. The individual must possess the skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Associate degree in Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology or related field.
  2. Two (2) years of experience in the Farm Equipment field related to the area of Diesel Ag Equipment Service Technology program.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an area of assigned instruction.
  2. Post-secondary Teaching experience.
