Engineering Plan Reviewer

ABOUTTHIS POSITION:

WHAT YOUWILL BE DOING:
This employee performs advanced work as a memberof the Technical Review Committee (TRC) with the primary duty of reviewing siteand subdivision plans, construction plans, record drawings, utilityencroachments, and plats for all projects with respect to traffic andtransportation infrastructure. Work alsoinvolves approval of construction plans on behalf of the Transportation &Infrastructure Development Department once all comments are addressed and reviewsplats to ensure consistency with approved plans. This employee also assists the TrafficEngineer with start and end of warranty including on-site inspections and documentingtraffic and transportation punchlist items.
This position reports to the Traffic Engineering Manager. Requires general direction on work that is broad in scope.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
A SAMPLEOF THE ESSENTIALS:
  • Reviews and approves construction plans, record drawings, and utility encroachments on behalf of Transportation & Infrastructure Development to ensure that all transportation-related items including roadway geometry, sight distance, pavement markings, signing, and roadside features meet American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and NCDOT guidance, as well as Town specifications.
  • Assists the Traffic Engineer in review of construction plans for the installation or modification of traffic signals and other traffic control devices.
  • Inspects and approves thoroughfare frontage improvement done by development in cooperation with NCDOT and Infrastructure Inspections staff. This includes ensuring proper installation of signage, traffic signals, pavement markings, accessibility, and other related features along NCDOT and Town thoroughfares.
  • Coordinates construction-level activity for utility or event-related roadway closures within Town limits.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
