Part Time Additive Manufacturing Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Additive Manufacturing Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Additive Manufacturing Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, 3D modeling, and materials science, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, additive manufacturing systems (such as FDM, SLS, or SLA), and knowledge of quality assurance standards are essential for the role. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help individuals excel in collaborating with teams and troubleshooting production issues. These skills ensure efficient design, fabrication, and optimization of components, leading to successful project outcomes in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

How does a part-time Additive Manufacturing Engineer typically collaborate with full-time team members to ensure project continuity?

As a part-time Additive Manufacturing Engineer, effective collaboration with full-time colleagues is crucial for maintaining project momentum and ensuring seamless handoffs. This often involves participating in regular update meetings, maintaining detailed documentation of design changes, and using project management tools to track progress. Clear communication and proactive scheduling help integrate part-time contributions with ongoing work, minimizing disruptions and ensuring that critical milestones are met. Many organizations also foster a collaborative environment through shared digital platforms, making it easy for part-time engineers to stay aligned with team objectives.

What are part time additive manufacturing engineers?

Part time additive manufacturing engineers are professionals who work reduced hours, typically less than a standard full-time schedule, focusing on the design, development, and optimization of 3D printing and other additive manufacturing processes. Their responsibilities may include creating prototypes, improving manufacturing workflows, troubleshooting machinery, and collaborating with teams to implement new technologies. Working part time allows them to balance other commitments while contributing specialized expertise to projects. They often work in industries such as aerospace, automotive, healthcare, and consumer goods, where additive manufacturing is increasingly in demand.

What is the difference between Part Time Additive Manufacturing Engineer vs Part Time Mechanical Engineer?

AspectPart Time Additive Manufacturing EngineerPart Time Mechanical Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Engineering, additive manufacturing certificationsBachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, relevant certifications
Work EnvironmentManufacturing labs, 3D printing facilitiesDesign offices, manufacturing plants
Industry Usage3D printing, prototyping, custom manufacturingProduct design, machinery, systems

The Part Time Additive Manufacturing Engineer focuses on 3D printing and additive processes, while the Part Time Mechanical Engineer covers broader mechanical design and systems. Both roles require engineering degrees and relevant certifications, but their work environments and industry applications differ. The additive manufacturing engineer specializes in rapid prototyping and custom parts, whereas the mechanical engineer works on traditional mechanical systems and product development.

Satellite Payload Systems Engineer, Lead
The Opportunity:
Booz Allen is seeking a systems engineer with demonstrated experience in end-to-end payload development for spaceflight systems, including requirements derivation, architecture definition, subsystem integration, flight readiness verification, and thermal, vibration, and radiation environmental qualification. Preferred candidates will have contributed to payloads that have successfully completed launch and on-orbit commissioning within operational LEO, MEO, GEO, or deep space missions.
As a Satellite Payload Lead Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping next-generation space systems for national security missions. You will apply deep expertise in satellite payloads, design and test of satellites, and space mission operations to architect, model, and assess end-to-end solutions. Working closely with systems engineers, software developers, and mission domain experts, you will conduct rigorous trade studies, define system-level requirements and interfaces, and identify architecture gaps, risks, and technology opportunities critical to delivering resilient future space payloads. You will collaborate directly with government clients and industry partners to maintain awareness of emerging space architecture and contribute to technical white papers, capability demonstrations, and proposals that position our team at the forefront of mission innovation. As our portfolio expands, you will have opportunities to lead systems engineering teams across multiple efforts, driving successful delivery of advanced space systems and shaping the direction of our space business.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 3+ years of experience supporting national security space programs, specifically in SIGINT or GEOINT mission areas
  • Experience in the design, development, integration, and verification of payloads for spaceflight systems
  • Experience with space vehicle design and manufacture practices, payload integration, and proto-flight testing of space vehicle systems
  • Experience executing systems engineering processes across the full lifecycle for satellite space systems, from requirements development through operational deployment
  • Experience with descriptive modeling tools such as Cameo Enterprise Architecture or MagicDraw
  • Experience developing analytical or automation scripts using engineering toolsets such as MATLAB, Python, or VBA
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines and work in a team environment
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience integrating COTS products into space systems
  • Experience developing high-fidelity satellite models and simulations for proliferated constellations, including orbital dynamics, payload performance, and end-to-end mission effectiveness analysis
  • Experience contributing to Agile and DevSecOps software development pipelines, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, automated testing, and secure software practices
  • Ability to architect and deliver technical solutions within classified Intelligence Community or Department of Defense environments, adhering to security, accreditation, and mission-assurance requirements
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • TS/SCI clearance

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Top Secret clearance is required.
