Are you passionate about early childhood education and making a positive difference in the lives of young children? Weโ€™re looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Head Start team as Teacher Assistant Substitutes!


In this essential role, youโ€™ll work alongside a team of educators to create a nurturing, safe, and engaging learning environment where children can grow, explore, and thrive.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Support teachers in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Interact positively with children to promote their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, healthy, and organized classroom environment.
  • Step into the lead role in the teacherโ€™s absence.
  • Communicate daily with parents and staff to support each childโ€™s development.
  • Maintain accurate records such as attendance, assessments, and progress notes.
  • Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies.

The ideal candidate will have:

A Few More Details

  • This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position under the supervision of the Education Manager and team.
  • Travel is generally not required but may occasionally occur.
  • This institution is an Equal Opportunity Provider.

Location: Berwick, PA Schedule: Typically, Mondayโ€“Friday, 7:30 AM โ€“ 3:00 PM

Hours and weeks based on need; typically weeks/months long due to scheduled Teacher Assistant's absence

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.

All positions must have experience with young children and their families; such as knowledge of human development, family dynamics and the needs of children. Knowledge of the health, nutrition, social, and educational needs of the young child.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of participating in active play and physical activities with children.
  • Must be able to frequently bend, kneel, stoop, sit on the floor, reach overhead, and safely navigate stairs, step stools, and step ladders.
