Job description

The Part-Time Activities Assistant is responsible for assisting in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating recreational, social, educational, spiritual, and therapeutic activities designed to meet the physical, emotional, cognitive, and psychosocial needs of residents. The Activities Assistant helps create a positive, engaging environment that promotes resident independence, dignity, and quality of life while complying with all facility policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation of the monthly activities calendar.
  • Encourage resident participation in group and individual activities.
  • Assist residents to and from activity programs as needed.
  • Lead activities under the direction of the Activities Director.
  • Set up, decorate, and clean activity areas before and after programs.
  • Assist with special events, holiday celebrations, family events, and community outings.
  • Visit residents who are unable to attend group activities and provide one-on-one engagement.
  • Document resident participation and responses to activities according to facility policy.
  • Assist with maintaining activity supplies and equipment.
  • Help decorate the facility for seasonal events and holidays.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, volunteers, and staff.
  • Assist with transporting residents safely during activities.
  • Encourage resident independence while providing assistance as needed.
  • Report changes in residents' physical, emotional, or cognitive status to nursing staff.
  • Follow infection control, safety, confidentiality, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Participate in department meetings and required in-service education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults, especially in skilled nursing, assisted living, or memory care, preferred.
  • CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Valid driver's license preferred if assisting with community outings.
